BatAndHammer

Welcome back dear friends for another wonderful week in geek.  This weekend was San Diego Comic Con and that means we are packed to the brim with exciting comic and movie news!  Okay so we focused a lot more on the movie news but damn it’s hard not to get excited about all that is coming up.  But before we delve into all that we have a spoiler free review from half of the BatAndHammer team (me) of Lucy as well as last weeks fan recommendation for the streaming review of  Stuck in Love.

This weeks Nerd News includes: Tusk Trailer, Hot Tub Time Machine Trailer, Gal Godot Wonder Woman Costume (seen above), BvS teaser (cam rip here until it gets taken down), Spiderman 3 and Sinister 6 movies swap dates, Marvels Comics changes to Hulk, Lucy Lawless in S.H.I.E.L.D., a rumored Marvel movie slate (below), Ama Stark being looked at for Ellie in LoU,  Uncharted movie release date.

As an edit:  We acknowledged the Marvel Slate image as rumor and yes it has now been proven false by Marvel confirming Cap 3’s accompanying movie is going to be Guardians 2.  That also kicks Kevin Feige‘s statement about “1 new and 1 old” to the curb, at least for 2016.   But still it’s fun to imagine isn’t it?

Hammer brings you another edition of Free Shit, Good Shit and we answer last weeks Podquestion.

Sorry friends no theatrical release this week but we do have our Streaming Review of the  Last Days on Mars from last week.  This movie really has some production dollars in it from all of the CG and set design that it’s almost hard to believe it wasn’t some bigger budget summer movie.  Okay maybe that’s overstating it a bit, but the movie is beautiful to look at and has some notable actors such as Liev Schreiber and Elias Koteas (Casey Jones).

Both of us have an affinity for outer space movies and this one really had me at the first 15-20 mins of the movie.  But as soon as the first space zombie appeared it lost me.  Personally this movie draws parallels with Doctor Who’s “The Water of Mars” with it’s zombifying space bacteria and their lust for water.  The movie was okay for a one time viewing but I’d have a hard time recommending anyone to spend their time on this one.  I gave 2 stars while Bat gave it 3.

This weeks Nerd News includes: Dota 2 International on ESPN, Xbox Entertainment Closing, Batman and Robin Writers are producing a Space Invaders movie, Ironman going Superior, Ultron reveal, Falcon becoming the new Captain America and the new Thor will be a woman.

We answer last weeks Podquestion and offer up a Fan provided one “What show do you turn your phone off for?”

Welcome back to your regularly scheduled week in geek!  This episode we review one of our highly anticipated summer movies, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.  Slight spoiler, we really liked it and we recommend you catch this one in the theaters.  We offer up both our spoiler-free and spoilerific reviews for your listening pleasure.  Think we’re right, wrong or just want to talk more about the movie?  Please make sure to let us know below and you will be on next weeks episode.

We discuss this week’s Streaming Review was  Safety Not Guaranteed.  And Bat provides this out of the blue recommendation of our next Streaming Review, Last Days on Mars. I personally haven’t heard of it until now.  But I  watched the trailer and found out that I was right in my prediction that it is a Horror/Suspense movie.

This weeks Nerd News includes: Yahoo picking up Community for its 6th season, Robbie Emel cast as (part of) Firestorm in Flash, Brandon Routh cast as The Atom in Arrow, Michael Bay directing the Power Rangers movie, Gearbox’s new game, Battleborn, J.K. Rowling’s new short story, possibly leaked BvS teaser, Jonathan Liebesman directing Shannara, Rifftrax doing Godzilla (1998) and Hammer’s review of the 17min sneak peak of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Hammer provides us some Free Shit, Good Shit and we answer last weeks Podquestion and offer up a new one “What is your favorite movie teaser?”

Howdy and hello dear friends.  Bat and I have taken the week off to celebrate a few birthdays and sit back and relax a bit.  But that leaves us with the opportunity to post our panel from last weeks AZ I-Con where we talked about starting a podcast from our own experience.  We had a few people who were a wonderful audience and participated quite a bit.  Thank again for everyone who showed up as well as AZ I-Con for having us as panelists, we had a blast and even bought a few geeky items from the awesome vendor hall.

I have also included a link to the blog post regarding all of our talking points as well as a few nice links for programs and websites that we found helpful.

Hello dear listeners and welcome back for another week in geek! This week we are joined by two very special guests for this very Comic filled episode.  Drawn to Comic’s Ken “The Web” Brown is back with another edition of The Web Sense with 6 comics you should check out.  We also have a new special guest Lonnie Lowe, creator of Dark City Comic’s E.P.I.C.,  to tell us more about his very own comic origin story and tell us more about his comic.

We also review my pick for last week’s streaming review The Family and talk about Bat’s suggestion for next weeks streaming review is the Horror movie The Purge.  This was a movie that both of us thought the concept looked pretty interesting but just didn’t motivate us enough to watch it in the theaters.  But with it being on HBOgo why the heck not.

With the help of our guests we dive into this weeks nerd news concerning Rian Johnson (director of Looper) directing Star Wars 8 and 9, Rosario Dawson being cast in Daredevil, the swirling rumors about Jason Mamoa being cast as Aquaman and Marvel considering a standalone Hulk movie.

Hello and Welcome back for another week in geek!  This week chose to review How to Train Your Dragon 2 (sorry 22 Jump Street, maybe later).  We give you our opinions of this high flying flick in both Spoiler-Free and Spoiler-ific fashion.  I also double dipped and caught an early morning showing of Tom Cruise’s Edge of Tomorrow and was pleasantly surprised by what it offered.  Definitely worth the price of admission for any person wanting a scifi battle flick.  I’ll have a more in depth review of Edge of Tomorrow later this week, so keep an eye peeled.  We also review Bats suggestion for this week’s Streaming Review is called The Dirties.

This week we also discuss the brunt of E3 news and go over the Nintendo/Sony/Micosoft/EA/Ubisoft Conferences, more specifically an Open World Zelda, Uncharted 4, Vita TV and Rainbow 6: Siege.  We also talk about the newly announced DC Movie Slate, cartoon versions of Rat Queens and Peter Panzerfaust and a new Borderlands Comic hitting shelves soon!

We also have some Free Shit, Good Shit as well as the answer to last weeks Podquestion

Welcome back friends, new and old!  This weeks Podcast is straight from our Live panel on Sunday at this years Phoenix Comic Con.  The audio is a little off because we completely forgot to repeat the comments of the crowd so you dear listeners could hear the whole conversation.  For that we apologize, but damn it was a heck of a fun sit down with a bunch of friends of the show and a few new friends as well.  We wrapped out our PHXCC 2014 experience with our favorite panels, costumes and purchases.  We discussed the delay of Arkham Knight, release date of Borderlands: the Pre-Sequel, Star Wars Casting News and have a fun in depth conversation about social media and spoiling movies.  Thank you to everyone that came into the panel and participated, you made it the fun experience that we never thought it could be.

Before we wrap up we want to express our gratitude to Phoenix Comic Con for giving us the Panel, All of the awesome people for showing up and a big special thank you to Ken “The Web” Brown for our $25 gift certificate raffle prize.

Welcome dear friends back to another week in geek!  This week we review the new Disney live action embodiment of Maleficent.  As usual we provide a Spoiler Free but if you want to really delve into what we thought of all aspects of the movie check out the Spoilerific review at the end of the podcast.

We also discuss this week’s Streaming Review, Pain and Gain.  This was one of those strange movies that I wanted to see in the theaters but just never got around to it and it’s a movie that Bat all together just wanted to avoid.  Listen in if you want to get our thoughts as to what we did and didn’t like about this one.

This weeks nerd news round up includes: Josh Brolin cast as Thanos, Roland Emmerich’s Stargate trillogy and his distaste for ID Forever‘s title, Sony’s changes to Playstation Plus, Jurrassic Park World rumors confirmed, Charlie Cox cast as Daredevil and Nintendo trying to make amends with Youtubers.

We have a bit of Free Shit, Good Shit as well as answers to this weeks Podquestion of What is the next Disney movie that you want to see get the Live Action treatment?”

Hello from the Future… or is it the Past ? Hmm… time is such a pain in the ass when it comes to using the proper tense for words.  Well temporal grammar aside welcome to another week in geek where Bat, the Fanboy and I review Xmen: Days of Future Past.  Does this movie live up to all of the hype (and the ginormous cast) and continue on the awesome train that First Class started?  Or does this movie join X3 and Xmen Origins: Wolverine in the corner of depressingly bad Xmen movies? Listen in to find out.

We also discuss this weeks Streaming Review of “Back in the Day.”  I won’t sugar coat it boys and girls, this one is bad.  With all 3 of us wishing we could give it less than 1 star, this movie is not even worth your time. Our next Streaming review, care of Hammer, is the Michael Bay Explosions + Bodybuilding + Kidnapping= Movie “Pain and Gain.”  The movie stars Marky Mark and The Rock as part of a trio of bodybuilders that get caught up in an extortion ring and a kidnapping scheme that goes terribly wrong.

This week we tackle the tough and not so tough geek topics of this week including our thoughts on: Goyer’s comments regarding She-Hulk and Comic fans, Edgar Wright stepping down as Director of Antman and DC’s reveal of the new Man of Steel movie “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.”  Funny how Superman gets second billing on his own squeal huh?
