It’s district PD season. You know the one. Six hours. Mandatory. “Research-based.” Delivered by someone who hasn’t taught in years. This episode isn’t about hating professional development. It’s about what happens when PD strips teachers of agency, autonomy, and basic respect — and then wonders why engagement is low. If we want teachers to model curiosity, ownership, and growth, we might want to start by treating them like professionals.
