The New York Jets were on the verge of starting 2–0.

They led the Green Bay Packers 17–7 in the fourth quarter at MetLife Stadium and appeared to be heading toward the type of win that could have completely changed the conversation surrounding this team.

Instead, the Jets let it slip away.

Green Bay scored the final 13 points and defeated New York 20–17 in overtime, dropping the Jets to 1–1. 

And this one hurts because the Jets had opportunities to finish it.

We'll break down the defensive lapses that allowed Jordan Love and the Packers back into the game, the 63-yard Skyy Moore punt return that helped Green Bay tie it, the Jets' inability to establish the running game, the failed fourth-and-1 late in regulation, and an overtime possession that ended after Geno Smith was sacked on consecutive plays. 

But the biggest question coming out of this game is about Aaron Glenn.

Should the Jets have gone for it on fourth-and-1 near midfield?

Why didn't Glenn use a timeout after New York stopped Green Bay with just over a minute remaining in regulation and potentially give his offense another opportunity to win?

And after winning the overtime coin toss, was taking the football the right decision?

Glenn said afterward that he didn't consider using the timeout in that late-regulation situation and wanted to be aggressive on fourth down because he trusted his running game. Those decisions are going to be heavily debated after a game the Jets appeared to have under control. 

Geno Smith finished 27-of-41 for 247 yards and a touchdown, but even he acknowledged afterward that the Jets had opportunities to close the game and failed to capitalize. 

So was this simply a young team learning how to finish games?

Or did Aaron Glenn and the coaching staff cost the Jets a game they should have won?

The New York Jets are 1–0…but now comes the real test. ✈️

After opening the 2026 season with an encouraging 23–10 victory over the Tennessee Titans, Aaron Glenn and the Jets return home to face Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers.

So we're asking the question Jets fans probably weren't expecting to ask this early:

CAN THE JETS REALLY START 2–0?!

The Tennessee win showed us a balanced offense, a strong running game, an offensive line that controlled the game and a defense that kept the Titans uncomfortable. But beating Green Bay would mean something different. Even after dropping their opener, the Packers remain the kind of opponent that can test whether what we saw from New York in Week 1 was legitimate. 

We'll break down Geno Smith and the Jets offense, Breece Hall and the running game, David Bailey and the pass rush, Aaron Glenn's defensive game plan for Jordan Love, and the biggest matchups that could decide the game.

We'll also discuss the injuries New York has to overcome. Minkah Fitzpatrick and Omar Cooper Jr. did not practice Wednesday and are considered week-to-week, while Joseph Ossai is getting closer to returning. Andre Cisco and Dane Belton are expected to handle the safety responsibilities if Fitzpatrick can't play. 

Green Bay has issues of its own. The Packers opened with a 39–22 loss to Minnesota, while Micah Parsons remains unavailable and Josh Jacobs cannot currently practice or play. 

Tennessee gave Jets fans a reason to feel good.

Green Bay could give us a reason to actually believe.
