From late morning to early evening, large formations of dive-bombers attacked Convoy CW.8 as it sailed through the Straits of Dover. Of the 21 coal ships in the convoy, only 10 made it to their destination at Portland. The dive-bombers were escorted by large numbers of Bf109s.
