Nobody can help everybody - while we all agree this is true, it can be a hard thing to remember and practice in our daily lives. And nobody knows this more acutely than Moms. They're famous for their ability to take on the world, and more often than not, they seem to be equal to the task! But in this Sunday's sermon, we'll see how Jesus' method of making disciples calls us to focus our efforts and abandon the notion that we are the solution to all the problems. Moms - we love you (and we hope this provides some relief)! See you Sunday.
Most of the time, when tragedy strikes, we are looking for someone to bring comfort to our heart and answers that will ease our confusion. Why did this happen? Who will be held responsible? Questions like this flood us and threaten to overwhelm. In today's teaching, Jesus surprisingly responds to a moment of tragedy with no answers about the past or comfort for the future - he takes his audience to the school of tragedy and teaches a hard-hitting truth about death and repentance. Join us this weekend as we learn a hard truth for a hard time.
Join us on Sunday as Greg shares his last message with us before heading off on sabbatical until the end of August. We will dive into Luke 9 and Jesus' teaching on the cost of discipleship: denying oneself and surrendering my will, desires, possessions and more to Him so that we can experience the fruit of His blessing and transforming power in our lives. See you Sunday!
You can learn a lot about people by listening to their prayers. Some wake up each morning and pray - "Good morning Lord" while others say "Good Lord its morning!" And more than the words we say when we pray, is the heart behind the prayer. The gospel writer Luke records for us a parable that Jesus taught, highlighting the heart behind the prayer of two very different men. In our series, Anatomy of a Savior, Jesus' curriculum is intended to change us to be more like Him. Join us this Sunday as we learn from Jesus what our prayers reveal about condition and state of hearts.
Throughout his teaching ministry, Jesus would frequently allowed his physical surroundings or the questions of those around him to impact his flow of thought. He's no ivory tower philosopher - he's firmly planted on the solid ground of everyday life, money, relationships and stress. This week's parable is no exception - Join us on Sunday as we explore a teaching that comes straight from a bad question, and hits us all where it hurts: our wallets.
We can’t wait to celebrate Easter together! Jesus is unparalleled because He died and rose from the dead for us! Easter is about unparalleled hope. I encourage you to invite friends and family. Together we will walk the Emmaus Road and see how Jesus meets each of us where we are. For all those in need of encouragement, your heart will burn within you when you grasp more clearly what the Scriptures say about the resurrection of Jesus. Join us this Sunday morning to worship our living Savior!
We've been looking at what only Luke included in the story of the crucifixion to discover unparalleled truths about Jesus. However, during this Good Friday service, we'll be looking at not only what Luke INCLUDED but what he strategically LEFT OUT as well. Join us as we see, mourn and celebrate the death of Jesus for our sake.
This week, we'll be exploring a moment from Luke's account of the crucifixion of Jesus that is likely familiar to most people who have been around the Bible - and because it's familiar, we've likely lost its SHOCK value. Jesus, in his final hours of life, has a conversation with a few career criminals and the results are highly surprising. But why did Luke include them in the first place? We'll explore these questions and more this Sunday as we continue to see how Jesus is Unparalleled.
This Sunday we turn our hearts toward Easter. If there was ever a time to bring a friend, now is the season. Over the next several weeks we will take a fresh look at the crucifixion and resurrection. As Luke investigates the life of Jesus, he comes across details not found in the other gospels. They are unparalleled “exclusives,” moments and statements that are ONLY found in the Gospel of Luke. These exclusives show us how unparalleled Jesus truly is. Join us this Sunday, as together we celebrate the approach of Easter.
All of us who have traveled in a group know of the challenges. It’s like herding cats…from getting everyone together on time, to bathroom breaks, to decisions of where and when to eat…ugh! Did it ever occur to you that Jesus traveled with a group as He ministered? Most don’t realize that His travel companions were made up of men AND women. As a matter of fact, the women mentioned in this Sunday’s passage experienced God’s grace in such a powerful way that their devotion to Jesus was unprecedented. Join us this Sunday as we look at the support structure God used to enable Jesus to handle the pressures of ministry.
