  • Trump warns Nato over securing the Strait of Hormuz | BBC News
US President Donald Trump has said it would be "very bad for the future of Nato" if allies don't help secure the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil shipping.
In an interview with the Financial Times, the US president said he expects China to help unblock the strait and could delay a summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping if it doesn’t.
Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport said it had to temporarily suspend flights after an Iranian drone struck nearby.
Israel said it has begun "limited and targeted ground operations" against Iran-backed Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

  • US-Israel war with Iran escalates with no ceasefire in sight | BBC News
Israel says it is expanding the scope of its military strikes, targeting additional areas in western and central Iran as the conflict intensifies.
Despite sustained bombardment, Iran has continued retaliatory attacks on Israel and across the wider region. Israeli officials say at least eight people were injured after repeated missile launches from Iran.
Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, says Tehran has “never asked for a ceasefire” in the conflict involving Israel and the United States. His comments come after former US president Donald Trump suggested the Iranian government appeared ready to make a deal, although he said the terms were “not good enough yet”.
With a negotiated settlement appearing distant, the BBC’s security correspondent Frank Gardner says Iran may hold two significant advantages in the conflict: its geography and its resilience.
Both factors, he suggests, may have been underestimated by the White House.

  • Israel expands scope of strikes while Iran fires more missiles | BBC News
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has told CBS News, the BBC’s US media partner, that Tehran has "never asked for a ceasefire, we have never asked even for negotiation".
It follows earlier comments from US President Donald Trump that Iran wanted a deal, but he was unwilling to agree to one "because the terms are not good enough yet".
Meanwhile, The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) says it is expanding the scope of its strikes against the Iranian regime's infrastructure to include more areas in western and central Iran.
The IDF says it aims to degrade the regime's "command and control capabilities". It comes as Iranian cluster bombs hit part of Tel Aviv where several people were left with minor injuries.
More Israeli strikes have also taken place in and around Beirut, aimed at Hezbollah targets in the region. The Lebanese Health Ministry said 850 people have been killed as a result of attacks by Israel since the start of the recent Middle East conflict.

  • Donald Trump says US not ready to make deal to end war with Iran | BBC News
Israel launched "wide-scale" strikes on targets in western Iran, the Israeli military has said.
Iran and Israel traded strikes overnight, while missile and drone interceptions have been reported in Gulf states.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said Iran wants to make a deal to end the war, but he doesn't want to yet "because the terms are not good enough".
In an interview with NBC, Trump added the US has "totally demolished" Kharg Island - Iran's critical oil export hub - but that "we may hit it a few more times just for fun".
Elsewhere, UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband told the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg that "any option that can get the Strait of Hormuz reopened is being looked at" after the US called for countries to help secure the shipping lane.

  • President Trump appeals to allies to help defend Strait of Hormuz from Iran’s attacks | BBC News
President Trump has called for international help in securing the Strait of Hormuz, the key shipping lane which carries much of the world’s supplies of oil and natural gas from the Middle East.
Iran has been attacking shipping passing through the Strait, as well as attacking installations and refineries in neighbouring countries, causing huge disruption to global energy supplies. The price of fossil fuels has surged since the war began, stoking fears of global recession and inflation.
Writing on his Truth Social media platform, Trump said: “the Countries of the World that receive Oil through the Hormuz Strait must take care of that passage… the US will coordinate with those Countries so that everything goes quickly, smoothly, and well. This should have always been a team effort, and now it will be – It will bring the World together toward Harmony, Security, and Everlasting Peace!”
The US President called on China, France, Japan and the UK to send warships to the region. It follows US airstrikes on Iran’s key Kharg Island oil facilities. There are reports that the Trump administration is sending thousands of US marines to the region. Iran has responded by threatening to escalate the war by targeting any facility in the region with US ties.
Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Nick Beake, Wyre Davies, Marc Ashdown and Jonathan Beale.
