  • Netanyahu and Trump meet as Iran nuclear talks reach critical stage | BBC News
President Donald Trump will host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Wednesday as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East and negotiations intensify over curbing Iran's nuclear weapons programme.
Netanyahu is expected to press Trump to pursue a deal that would not only halt Iran's uranium enrichment, but also cut its ballistic missile programme and support for proxy groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.
The prime minister has long argued that Iran represents an existential security threat to Israel and has pushed the US to curb Tehran's influence in the region.
Iran has suggested it is ready to limit its nuclear programme in return for sanctions relief, but it has rejected the other demands.

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has had a tumultuous week, fighting for his political survival.

Two members of the prime minister's team, his chief of staff and director of communications have also stood down.
However, in a turn of fate, Keir Starmer won over senior ministers and MPs saying he was 'not prepared to walk away'.

  • BBC Inside Iran: as Trump threatens “something very tough” if talks fail | BBC News
Donald Trump is threatening Iran with further military attacks if it does not meet his demands on issues including nuclear enrichment. The US President said Iran would face “something very tough” if negotiations do not succeed. He said he is considering sending a second aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East to prepare for military action.
The US and Iran resumed negotiations last week, for the first time since the 12 days of conflict in June 2025, when the US carried out airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Alongside the new talks, the US has begun a massive military build-up in the region. The USS Abraham Lincoln and its strike group has already been deployed.
Donald Trump has claimed that Iran "wants to make a deal very badly”. However Tehran has said it won't negotiate on any issues other than its nuclear program and won't give up its right to enrich uranium. It’s accused of attempting to build a nuclear weapons but insists the enrichment programme is only intended for civil nuclear power.
The BBC is reporting from inside Iran for the first time since mass protests there were crushed in an authoritarian crackdown in which thousands of people were killed by the authoritiies.
Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Lyse Doucet in Tehran and Sarah Smith in Washington.
