  • What are forever chemicals, and how do they impact our health? | BBC News
BBC reporter Catrin Nye has been carrying out an investigation for BBC Panorama into how so-called forever chemicals could affect people’s health and contaminate the environment.
Forever chemicals, or PFAS (per-and poly fluoroalkyl substances), are a group of about 10,000 chemicals and are used in anything from cookware, to waterproof clothes, electronics and medical equipment.
They are persistent pollutants, meaning they don't degrade easily and instead build up in the environment.
Scientists have linked a small number of them to serious harms, such as infertility and cancer.

  • BBC speaks to victims of Sudan conflict | BBC News
The BBC has travelled to a tent camp in the deserts of northern Sudan in army-controlled territory to hear first-hand the stories of those who escaped.
The team was monitored by the authorities throughout the visit.
The RSF has been fighting the regular army since April 2023 when a power struggle between them erupted into war.
Taking over el-Fasher was a major victory for the paramilitary group, pushing the army out of its last foothold in Darfur.
But, evidence of mass atrocities has drawn international condemnation and focused greater American attention on trying to end the conflict.

From reducing the cost of development to speeding up the pace of productions, industry insiders say the benefits of artificial intelligence to the film industry could be limitless.

BBC News asked Benjamin Barfoot, director of last year’s psychological horror movie Daddy’s Head, to put the latest AI tech to the test.

  • Can we prepare for the impact of melting glaciers? | BBC News
Glaciers are melting - but what remains uncertain is how quickly they are. This poses a problem in not knowing how much and how soon sea levels around the world could rise.
One of the Arête Glacier Initiative's aims is to predict just this, with a helping hand from technology and scientists in Lake Michigan, which was formerly a glacial site.
At the University of Wisconsin, a machine takes the samples from Lake Michigan to conduct experiments that could one day predict how fast glaciers in Antarctica and elsewhere in the world could disappear.

  • Venezuela calls US President Trump warning ‘colonialist threat’ | BBC News
Venezuela has reacted angrily to US President Donald Trump's statement that the airspace around the country should be considered closed.
The country's foreign ministry called Trump's comments "another extravagant, illegal and unjustified aggression against the Venezuelan people".
The US does not have legal authority to close another country's airspace and the Venezuelan statement accused Trump of making a "colonialist threat".
The US has built its military presence in the area and carried out at least 21 strikes on boats it says were carrying drugs, killing more than 80. It has not provided evidence and Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro said the US moves are an attempt to oust him.

Sean Ono Lennon, the youngest son of The Beatles guitarist John Lennon, has said "it all feels like history is repeating", when comparing the political times of the US in the early 1970s to today.
