Atari CEO Wade Rosen admits that the retro gaming brand can give "Nirvana t-shirt energy" when it comes to a younger generation of people.
He feels this nostalgia, and the fact the iconic brand has earned a place in popular culture, has given Atari the right to a place in people's homes, with the release of their new handheld, the Atari Gamestation Go.
He also gives his thoughts on the competition of illegal emulators and why he thinks gamers will always return to physical media.

  • Eurovision tightens rules after Israel voting controversy | BBC News
The Eurovision Song Contest is changing its rules around voting and promotion in the wake of controversy about Israel's result at this year's competition.
Some countries raised concerns after Israel topped the public vote at the contest in May, finishing second overall after the jury votes were taken into consideration.
Fans will now be able to cast 10 votes each, down from 20, and juries will return for the semi-finals.
Organisers will also ban contestants and broadcasters from taking part in promotional campaigns by third parties, including governments.
Last year, there were reports that an Israeli government agency paid for adverts and used state social media accounts to encourage people to vote for its entry.

  • Money laundering network funding Russia's war, UK crime agency warns | BBC News
Buying cocaine in the UK can indirectly funding Russian arms factories, according to the National Crime Agency (NCA).
The NCA said a man linked to a Russian-led money-laundering network operating in the UK had bought a bank in Kyrgyzstan which was used to make payments on behalf of the Russian war machine.
The agency is trying to disrupt the network from top to bottom, even putting adverts in UK motorway service station toilets to warn couriers carrying cash for the money-launderers of the lengthy jail sentences they face, as part of an investigation called Operation Destabilise.

  • Zelensky says he will not betray Ukraine as the US pushes for a peace deal with Russia | BBC News
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he won't betray his country's national interests as the US continues to push for a peace deal with Russia.
Addressing the nation, the Ukrainian leader said that he is working constructively with the US on the proposal, but he warns Kyiv may face a choice between losing its "key partner" or its dignity.
Russia has yet to receive anything official on the plan, the Kremlin said.
The widely leaked US plan includes proposals that Kyiv had previously ruled out, such as ceding areas of the eastern Donetsk region that it still controls, reducing its army in size, and pledging not to join Nato.

  • Ex-leader of Reform UK in Wales sentenced for taking pro-Russian bribes | BBC News
Nathan Gill, the former leader of Reform UK in Wales, has been sentenced to 10-and-a-half years in prison for taking bribes as part of a pro-Russia influence campaign.
Gill, 52, was paid thousands of pounds to give TV interviews in favour of a key Vladimir Putin ally and to make speeches in the European Parliament, where he was an MEP from 2014 to 2020.
He had admitted eight counts of bribery between 2018 and 2019.
Judge Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb described it as "sophisticated offending" and said the harm it inflicted is "profound".

  • Zelensky ready to work with US on ‘their vision’ for ending war in Ukraine | BBC News
President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he is ready to work with the US on "their vision" for ending the war with Russia.
Under the plan, which has not yet been made public, Kyiv would cede significant areas of the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine that it still controls, cut the size of its army, and pledge not to join Nato - proposals it had previously ruled out.
The White House has pushed back on claims that Ukraine was not involved in the drafting of the plan, which emerged following meetings between US special envoy Steve Witkoff and and Russian counterpart Kirill Dmitriev.
Zelensky said he was set to speak to Trump in the coming days about the proposals, which also include plans for Ukraine to forgo many of its weapons.
