  • What do the Democratic Socialists of America believe in? | BBC Americast
Abolish ICE? Abolish borders, No prisons? The co-chair of the DSA speaks to us about what the party really stands for and whether they can persuade undecided Americans to vote for them.
The Democratic Socialists of America can count some of the country’s most high-profile politicians in its ranks, such as Bernie Sanders, Zohran Mamdani and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Until recently, the organisation had only a few thousand members and sat on the fringes of US politics.

In today’s episode, Justin speaks to the DSA’s national co-chair Ashik Siddique about their vision for the country, including on housing, healthcare as well as Ukraine, Israel and Gaza. What do they really stand for, and could they one day end up taking over the Democratic Party?

  • Why will the G7 release 100m barrels of European fuel reserves? | BBC News
France's President Emmanuel Macron says the G7 group of advanced economies will release up to 100 million barrels of diesel and oil reserves to try to control rising prices.
US President Donald Trump had been considering a ban on US diesel exports, which could have cut American fuel prices in the short term but pushed them up elsewhere.
It's as the average diesel price in the UK has passed £2 a litre for the first time ever, adding to inflationary pressures on day-to-day products.
And with vital waterways like the Strait of Hormuz blocked and energy infrastructure damaged, BBC Verify investigates how much oil is actually getting out of the Middle East.

  • Why has UK diesel price hit an all time high? | BBC News
The average price of diesel has risen above £2 a litre in the UK for the first time, according to the RAC motoring group, with petrol also soaring to 174.71p a litre on average.
Price rises were "showing no signs of slowing, heaping more misery onto motorists," the group said.
Separately on Friday, the G7 nations agreed to release 100 million barrels of oil to head off further increases.
