Man comes into this world in a state of complete hopelessness, complete darkness, complete blindness, until the gospel of hope shines light and gives sight to those who were formerly blind. John 9 illustrates this for us by means of Jesus’ encounter with a man born blind.

Ever since Jesus prayed in Gethsemane, the church has strived to maintain the unity for which Jesus prayed. Unity is a beautiful thing in a church. Disunity, on the other hand, is a dangerous thing for any church. In Philippians 2, Paul exhorts the Philippians to strive to maintain gospel unity through biblical humility.

Psalm 136 highlights the fact that God’s steadfast love endures forever. Because of God’s endless love, the psalmist urges his people to give thanks to him, offering five reasons, rooted in endless love, for God’s people to praise him and give him thanks.

There are different ways for us to evaluate our lives, but as Christians—particularly if we will rejoice—we must have a Christ-centred view of life. Paul shows us in Philippians 1 what it means to live with a Christ-centred view of life.

The apostle Paul knew suffering—and he knew how to handle it too. His comforting and encouraging words to his gospel partners in Philippi give us deep insight into the topic. These personal words provide us with a framework on which we can act, allowing us to endure the trials that come our way with purpose and unshakeable joy.

Psalm 134 is really a song that died several times over the history of Israel. Those who feel that the music has died in their lives should sing this song with great fervour. It gives us insight as to what it means to prioritise perpetual praise.

Philippians 1:1–11 form a unit—Paul’s opening prayer for his gospel partners—which gives us several important lessons to learn regarding how to pray biblically for our partners in the gospel.
