Sumo Drop - Nagoya Basho July 2022 Week 3

Welcome back to Sumo Drop!

Film director and film critic Matthew Stogdon is back with filmmaker, writer and podcaster Emma-Jane Corsan to cover the first day of Sumo Wrestling's July tournament: the Nagoya Basho.

This last week in Nagoya has been an absolute bloodbath but not because of the bouts in the ring, but the amount of rikishi who had to withdraw due to stable mates getting covid. Suffice it to say, this one ended in a weird place and we're going to have a really tough time reflecting on what lessons to take away from the whole ordeal.

This podcast is designed for both veteran supporters or anyone curious, looking to get into Japan's national sport. For an introduction to the sport, please check out our guide to sumo: https://soundcloud.com/bbgwpod/sumo-drop-guide-to-sumo

So chuck some salt in the air and step into the ring, it's time for Sumo Drop!

For details on Matt, Em or Fox's other projects feel free to follow them on twitter: twitter.com/stoghz, twitter.com/emmajanemint and twitter.com/grapplearcade.

Chris Lappin is joined by One half of ACT TWO, Sweet Prince Benjamin Harland.

Benjamin discusses his recent run in the ring, what prompted him to dawn the tights and get in the ring, the evolution of his character, the history of ACT TWO and creates a fantasy card using wrestlers he’s worked with.
