In this new series, "Jesus Continued," based on JD Greear's book, we delve into the often overlooked but essential aspect of the Christian life: being filled with the Spirit of God.
Many Christians find themselves on one of two extremes regarding the Holy Spirit: some are obsessed, seeking mystical experiences, while others largely ignore Him. However, Jesus himself emphasized the importance of the Holy Spirit, promising that it was to their advantage that he go away so they could receive the Holy Spirit.
Throughout John 14–16, Jesus speaks about the Holy Spirit over twenty times, underlining His significance.
The Holy Spirit makes the presence of God real to us (John 14:18): Just as God desired to be present with His people throughout history, through the Holy Spirit, He is even closer, dwelling within believers.
The Holy Spirit makes the power of God alive in us (John 15:5): Rather than mechanical growth, the Holy Spirit facilitates organic growth in believers, producing spiritual fruit.
The Holy Spirit makes the mission of God personal to us (John 14:12): Jesus promised that believers would do greater works than He did because He was going to the Father. Through the Holy Spirit, believers are empowered to fulfill the mission of God.
To live a victorious Christian life, one must be filled with the Spirit, abiding in His presence, surrendering to His power, and allowing Him to guide in the mission of God.
