Psalm 126 teaches us this powerful truth: sowing in tears always leads to reaping in joy.

In Week 2 of our Ascend series, we explore what it means to sow in difficult seasons. Psalm 126 reminds us that harvest doesn’t come without planting—and sometimes the planting happens through tears. We love trophy season, but growth is formed in training season. Restoration doesn’t erase sorrow; it transforms what we choose to plant in it.

Through the Songs of Ascent and the words of Jesus in John 12, we’re reminded that sowing is costly—but never wasted. Faith doesn’t deny sorrow; faith decides what to plant in it. What you sow in sorrow determines what you reap in joy. This message challenges us to choose gratitude over complaint, trust over fear, obedience over comfort, and generosity over scarcity. If ascension depended on your performance, would you qualify? The gospel says there’s another way.

In this Vision Sunday message, Who May Climb?, we wrestle with an honest question found in Psalm 24: who is actually able to ascend the mountain of the Lord? At first glance, the answer feels intimidating—clean hands, pure hearts, no idols, no lies. If ascension depends on our performance, none of us qualify.

But Psalm 24 isn’t a list meant to exclude us—it’s a picture of what life with God looks like when it’s aligned. And the gospel turn reminds us that what we could never produce on our own, Jesus has already provided. Clean hands are received, not achieved. Pure hearts are given, not earned. Freedom from idols comes not from trying harder, but from loving Jesus more.

Ascending isn’t about effort—it’s about dependence. It’s about laying down the weight of guilt, shame, fear, and self-salvation, and trusting what Christ has already done at the cross. This message invites us to stop climbing harder and start trusting deeper.

Many of us prefer a faith that fits neatly into our schedule—comfortable, familiar, and manageable. Hope has come. In a world filled with darkness, the birth of Jesus reminds us that light is on the way.
