The Hardest Part Is the Waiting
A special, recorded on the dock in Mazatlán while Hurricane Simon sits off the coast.
Zeus took the jib down this morning. He doubled the lines. The supplies we drove from the United States are already on board. Simon peaked as a Category 4. It is slower now, and slow storms bring rain, surf, and mudslides. We are watching to see where it turns.
This is a letter from the dock, written while the wind is still rising. The first storm put six inches of water over the shipyard pier, and the electrical box that fed Amazing Grace was sitting in it. Hurricane Pamela put Charlotte at the throttle with a bucket in the other hand while Zeus worked the fenders on deck. Not every storm in this ministry has come with wind. Some were a border, a bill, a son, a season of doubt.
Twenty-five dollars fills one home health kit. Two hundred fifty equips a Red Cross station. The only ask today is the Wave.

A cloud in a backyard. A four-year-old who named the face before her parents would. A man who said he would never live on a boat, and then found an office on one.
Charlotte and Zeus Ebio on the summer of 2000, when God said serve him with ships. A magazine on a couch. A line in Oswald Chambers: get into the ship and go to the other side. A house that sold in four hours. A hundred-foot steel hull they did not know how to run. Twenty thousand hours. A night on the back deck at Bethel Island when they almost sold her. A door in Kona. A table in 2014. A crossing in 2017 with other people’s children aboard, and a girl at the helm who saw the dolphins first.
The first yes was get into the ship. They are still in it.
