As an ongoing measure of our business success, we routinely look forward to our annual "Giving Tuesday" campaign. This year's campaign got a head start when Hurricane Helene swept through and destroyed towns, small businesses and wide swatches of land throughout our home region of Western North Carolina.

This episode explores the immediate and ongoing fundraising efforts that Recover has deployed to help our neighbors in need. With all of the destruction that has occurred, the beauty and strength of the community shines through. We are proud to be an NC-based company that is using NC made products to raise funds for NC Disaster Relief and support countless NC Small Businesses.

36 years after this first official race at the age of 4, Cal Neff, continues to thrive in the running industry. He is a professional athlete for ALTRA, a running coach, and the Race Director for a year-round series of non-traditional, yet approachable, trail races under the Trail Racing Over Texas (TROT) umbrella.

He joins the podcast to share his world traveling upbringing, how he landed in Texas, and his approach to creating unique events for runners of all types. We also hit on how Cal was originally introduced to Recover (Hint: he still has a Recover shirt from 12+ years ago!) and the variety of ways that Recover and TROT are working together to bring the sustainable storytelling to TROT's start lines and beyond!

For over 25 years, The Island School, located in Eleuthera, Bahamas, has been empowering young people in their "coming to age" journey through experiential education in an immersive and idealistic setting. At its core, the school's teaching philosophy is based on the simple question of "how do we live well in a place?". This philosophy is rooted in conservation, sustainability, collaboration, accountability, and personal development.

A few young thoughtful leaders looked at their school uniforms and asked that same inquisitive "how do we live well" question and it has blossomed into an ongoing 12+ year relationship with Recover to provide fully sustainable and recyclable school uniforms that align with The Island School's ethos.

 As we step back and celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the Be The Impact Podcast (and the 50th episode!), the theme of longevity keeps creeping into our minds.

Parallels to longevity are easily found in our company's history of leading the sustainable apparel industry since 2010, the infinite circularity of every single product we make, and the positive impact that we continue to have on our planet for future generations to come.

Ironically, this episode was recorded during an off-site staff retreat at Wrong Way River Lodge & Cabins (Episode #19 HERE) which was founded by longtime friends of Recover and supporters of a more sustainable approach to business and personal life.
