  • Where Is Your Support Group? Feeling Anxious?

    YOU NEED FRIENDS!

The truth is anxiety comes in many different ways. Sometimes the anxiety we feel is the byproduct of thinking to ourselves, "I can't do this," or "I don't know what they will think," or maybe saying, "I'm not sure how this will end." Our mind is powerful and can quickly cause us to come up with unrealistic scenarios that only make matters worse. The key is to turn your thoughts towards heaven and talk to Jesus about it.

David dealt with anxiety a lot in the Bible. I mean, the guy spent several years running for his life and hiding in caves! He often wrote about his pain and problems, which in turn helped to change his thoughts and refocus them on God's protection. Look at one of the verses he wrote in Psalm 94:19 (NIV), "When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul." David knew where he could turn to find joy amid his situation.

Along with consistent prayer; To combat anxiety you need a support team! It can be tough to navigate anxiety and find someone to talk to. Truthfully, some Christians and even pastors brush it off like it's no big deal. People who haven't dealt with it might say things like, "you're not praying enough" or, "just let it go!" But let me reassure you it's a real struggle, and God sincerely wants to see you free from it. Begin by praying and asking Him to send people around you who can support you and encourage you in your darkest hour!

  • The Cure To Your Anxiety | It's Not What You Think

Anxiety is at an all-time high in our world right now. Have you been dealing with it lately? The thing I hate the most is that anxiety can paralyze all of us and wreak havoc on our lives. It strikes when we least expect it and seems to last forever. The truth is, prayer can change that!

Many individuals in the Bible dealt with anxiety! Yes, individuals like David, Job, Martha, Jonah, Moses, and even Jesus, experienced some form of anxiety during tough times. Famines, constant war, and corrupt leadership were just a few things they were dealing with back then! So, anxiety was as much of a struggle back then as it is now.

We might not be able to eliminate situations that produce anxiety, but we can be better prepared to deal with them when they arise! Even during uncontrollable chaos, you can have peace. Invite God into your situation and share your struggles and fears with Him. Let the joy of the Lord overwhelm you, and watch how your anxiety diminishes. God brings us peace even during our most chaotic moments.

So today, when anxiety strikes, stop and pray. Choose to focus on the solution, which is Jesus, and allow the peace of God to overwhelm you wherever you are!

  • Are your prayers selfish? Stop asking, start listening.

It’s a beautiful thing when we choose to lay down our wants and needs for the things of God. A selfless prayer shifts our focus from our desires and needs to what God wants for our life. That might seem counterintuitive considering most prayers consist of asking God for His blessings and help, but that’s not the problem. Asking God to help you is not what makes a prayer selfish. What makes a prayer selfish is when we begin to put our desires ahead of what God wants.

When you choose to lay down what you want for the things God wants, that’s selflessness. I want more than ever to be aligned with the heart of God and His will for my life.

I know it can be incredibly challenging because we can’t see the future, and often God’s entire plan for us is not revealed all at once. The goals and dreams you have for yourself don’t even come close to what God has in store for you. It’s through life’s journey and walking by faith that His will is revealed.

Today, don’t just beg God for the things you want. There’s nothing wrong with asking, but choose to remain selfless by surrendering your wants to the will of God. Be willing to lay down your wants and needs for what God wants for your life and watch His miraculous handiwork. Remain humble before Him when you pray, and choose to align your heart selflessly with His.

  • SO, HOW DO I PRAY? A guide to a daily prayer life.

Check out this new mini series from Beacon Church Online
Prayer, it's more than a blessing over a meal or a short stanza you recite before bed. Prayer is one of the most powerful tools we have that allows us to connect deeply with God on a personal level. Unfortunately, over the years, religion and culture have attempted to redefine how to pray and even who we pray to. If you grew up in church, I'm sure you have your own definition of what prayer is to you, but what if you didn't? Prayer doesn't have to be complicated, and it shouldn't be your last resort when you happen to fall into hard times.

You may have felt intimidated by hearing others' perfect prayers in the past, but the first thing you need to understand is that prayer has nothing to do with how you articulate your words. In fact, it doesn't matter how your prayer sounds at all. I want to encourage you with this truth - God could care less about how good you sound. What matters to God is the posture of your heart.

So let's start out today, day one, by cutting out all the fluff. It's time to simplify your prayer life and posture your heart. Let your prayer today be genuine and heartfelt. You will be amazed at the peace you feel from spending this time with your heavenly Father. Start out by inviting His presence into your day today, and thank Him for what He has done.
