When it comes to monster companion anime, Digimon is probably in the top 5 all time but for a number of reasons, by the time Digimon Tamers wrapped up, Digimon was well in decline in terms of US popularity. The card game was cancelled, the next anime series (Digimon Frontiers) was widely panned and things never got better for the franchise promoting the question: What went wrong?
