Welcome to SEASON 2 of Now UC Me! In the first episode of this season, UC’s Student Body Vice President Emeritus Taylor Allgood speaks to the core initiatives of her campaign and reflects on what the position has meant to her. As one of the only woman-identifying leadership teams that UC’s student government has seen, she and President April Gable felt it was imperative to center on equity and inclusion during their term. From the time they began planning their campaign in the fall of 2020, they planned to directly address the needs of UC students by communicating directly with the heads of various student organizations and investing in the facilitation of support-driven resources on campus. Taylor’s community engagement also extends to her ongoing participation in non-profits that support individuals who experience socio-economic barriers, namely women of color and their families. She also goes on to explain how the position connects to her identity as a writer, and where that passion has led her over the years, especially in terms of exploring her sense of self and speaking to social justice issues.
