For decades male Jehovah’s Witnesses were hauled into the back room, counselled, ridiculed, and denied privileges within the congregations and the organization simply because of a bit of stubble, a goatee, or growing a full beard. It is rare to see one of Jehovah’s Witnesses sporting a beard, and it is almost unheard of in English-speaking countries for a bearded brother to hold a position of responsibility.
