OCR is unlike any other sport as in one day you go from the professional athletes to the weekend warriors and on to the first timers who maybe don't have the right shoes or haven't trained but just wanted to get off the couch and do something. Joe De Sena (founder of Spartan Races) started the company with the goal if getting a million people off their couches and to try something they never did before. The goal's now 100 million people and with Dave out proving that anyone, even the Common Man, can do it. This was supposed to be a monthly check in on how Mike's progressing and comparing notes. But with a shoe blowout at SISU PNW that ended up being the focus of the shoe. Both Mike and Megan(and your editor in chief Sir Boggs) are all pretty disappointed with Altra ending the King MT a few year back and not having something that is in our opinion comparable. Mike is down to his last pair, so is Boggs, and now Megan has rotated her last pair into the mix. We hate finding new shoes! But, I digress, this is an episode where Mike and Megan talk about testing gear before a race, rotating gear to keep fresh, and there is a bit a of message to ALTRA in there......

On Today's episode Pretty Mike talks with Jeremy "Captain" Kaufmann about his company Core Events. They run 4 in person events and 4 virtual events annually and the Double Down bicycling challenge starts July 1st. Get signed up. With the nationals all combining over the last few years and pulling out of the PNW we are left without OCR. Not including Terrain Race or their other companies we have less than a dozen OCRs in the Seattle Portland area of which 3 are national brands. Spartan has dropped Portland, Tough Mudder failed to deliver Portland last year and backed out of Portland going forward, Rugged Maniac stopped doing Seattle before covid and doesn't appear to be coming back. So we have one Trifecta weekend in Monroe Wa, one Tough Mudder event in Black Diamond WA, and one Rugged Maniac in Portland. So, it's up to us all to support all the local OCRs and event companies like Core Events to help grow a local community and not rely on the nationals that all appear to be abandoning the PNW. Today Mike talks with Benj and Nikki from Fitness with Bennies and Ryan Polin about their OCR in Camas this summer. They get caugh up with all things and then discuss how the race came to be and how there is a HUGE void in the PNW after COVID. Spartan left Boise and Washogal leaving only one race in the PNW from their brand and one from Tough Mudder.
