  • Ep 23: Paul Stamets and Rep. Jeff Shipley
I have the great pleasure of sharing a conversation between world renowed mycologist, Paul Stamets and Iowa Represenitive Jeff Shipley of district 82. This was a great honor to listen to the great mind of Paul Stamets share his experience, expertise, and wisdom with the proper therapeutic use of psilocybin mushrooms and the steps to decriminalize psilocybin from Iowa code. I know not the average hunting topic, but this is what Beast of Burden is about. It's about finding true beasts of burden and both Mr. Stamets and Rep. Jeff Shipley have found their burdens worth carrying. Paul Stamets has also done countless hours of research on gourmet and medicinal mushrooms. Paul has also found practical ways of saving the honey bee from colony collapse using mycelium of reishi, turkey tail, and other powerful mushrooms. You can find other interviews with Paul Stamets on the Joe Rogan Experience. This is a complicated topic so I ask you listen with an open mind. This is not about getting high and "having a good time" this is about exploring alternative ways of healing the human psyche. Please enjoy!

  • Ep. 20 Trapping as a Management Tool pt. 1
Welcome to another episode of Beast of Burden! Todat we talk about the necessaties of trapping on your land. Mainly, I focused on the delusion of "if I have this habitat, I'll have more prey species therefore the predators will leave my deer, turkeys, ect alone because the predators have plenty of mice and rabbits".... in a fantasty land sure, but the beautiful aspect of habitat management is: build it and they will come. All of the critters will come. It comes down to balance. The more opportunities you present for wildlife and ALL wildlife will requrie balance. My logic states, "Bountiful habitat presents bountiful prey (turkey, deer, quail, grouse) then bountiful predators. Challenge me on that. Too me this leads to an sportsman paradise. If you want to challenge me on my logic or have questions, email me at: [email protected]

  • Ep. 19 Lack of Responsibility in the Hunting Community with the Dear Hunter Podcast
This is a special episode with very special guests: the hosts of The Dear Hunter Project Cody Altizer and Erich Long! It was a great conversation with great guests! The topic is: the lack of responsibility in the hunting community, myself included. It was a challenging conversation, but much needed. Please enjoy! Give yourself time of reflection and ask, "What can I do?" I ask myself that everyday. Enjoy!
