Beatnik Turtle's Encore Song of the Day

This one was written by Pete Shukoff of Nice Peter (www.nicepeter.com) the night before joining us in the studio to do some writing and recording.

We thought this song best fit a Monday. It's from our forthcoming album, ALL IN A DAY'S WORK. (The pre-release of the album is already available at iTunes, but the CD's not due until August...probably because the CD duplicators don't want to work on it today.)

Our friend Ted Blegen (of Ants and Commuter Railway Blues fame) has made the big move to Los Angeles. This song was the theme we made for the sketch comedy group he was in called, The Dolphins of Damnation. They performed in and around Chicago and at Second City on many occasions.

We wish Ted the best as he takes on Hollywood (though he's still Skyping songs into TheSongOfTheDay.com).

This song was 17 years in the making. It was written back in 1990 - the last time the 17-year Magicicada came out. It was inspired by a newspaper article written at the time about people eating the bugs ("They taste like potatoes!"). It was recorded and completed with one exception - the middle was to include the noisy roar of the 17-year cycle cicada. Unfortunately, Jason ended up spending the summer in Europe and missed seeing, hearing, and recording them.

Disappointed, he vowed to finish the song and wait the 17 long years for their return. Over the weekend they emerged -just like clockwork and today the song is finally complete.
