  • E37 - Why Santa is a Scientific Powerhouse of Epic Awesomeness
The job of Santa is epic. He is epic. It is all epic. However, your parents only told you a little bit of the story. You want to know the truth about the crazy, weird, wild, powerful, cool story… look no further than science. I have always loved Santa. I have always loved Stories. Stories, legends, tales, epics, sagas, and fables have been given to each new generation to pass on imagination, information, ideas, and feelings. We as a society are connected by tales being passed on from one person to the next. As it passes on it gets a little added personal flavor from one person to the next added to it. My flavor always comes in the form of science. | Show notes: https://awesound.com/@The_ScienceBro/e37?auid=aGZcKxNd

  • E36 - SnowBall Earth - The Worst Winter Ever
Geology teaches us a story. A story of epic proportions and events that has led to this moment, this day, this life. As the season swings to cold and winter comes back for the fun it is time to appreciate what we have. We have a planet that has changed again and again, over and over, for billions of years. Take a second to appreciate this winter because there have been many in the past. Each winter played a role and acted as a chapter in the story of how we got to today. A long time ago there was a series of events that took place which tipped the Earth into cold chaos. Snowball Earth is a theory that describes a time where our whole planet was covered in ice over a mile deep. Imagine a world cold as the Arctic as the equator and then reflect on how this winter is not so bad. Then get out there and play a snow sport since life is short. | Show notes: https://awesound.com/@The_ScienceBro/e36?auid=aGZcKxNd

  • E35- Gratitude and Empathy - Learn About the Science and How to Shift Your Awareness Towards It
Gratitude and empathy are two emotions we all need more of in our lives. For years these ideas have resided in the eastern side of science, but has now been brought to the for front of western science. These wonderful scientists have now use fMRI scanners to show where these emotions activate in the mind and brain. This new data also shows us the power of how we can swift our awareness towards being more gracious to literally change our mind-body to be of a lightning rod for gratitude. And increasing gratitude can have a positive effect on all aspects of your life. Let me teach the science and some basic strategies on how to get more of it in our mind, body, and life. | Show notes: https://awesound.com/@The_ScienceBro/e35-gratitude-and-empathy-learn-about-the-scien?auid=aGZcKxNd

  • E34- How Empathy and Gratitude Can "Trump" Fear and Hate
“Every one of us is, in the cosmic perspective, precious. If a human disagrees with you, let him live. In a hundred billion galaxies, you will not find another.” Carl Sagan -Cosmos
The morning of the 5th I awoke to a new world. A world that I didn't want, but hope that it will be alright. I wanted to create this episode to help us find some love and kindness in the world today. Sometimes we can get flooded by the negative vibes around us and I think science can increase our inner awareness regarding our capacity for empathy and for gratitude. In this episode I break down multiple studies with findings that will empower you to choose a happier mindset and therefore a happier life. Today's world seems to be doubling down on fear and hate... Let's take a different route by doubling down on love, empathy, and gratitude. Doing so will not only enliven the self, but will permeate through those around us. And when love spreads, a better tomorrow will follow. | Show notes: https://awesound.com/@The_ScienceBro/e34?auid=aGZcKxNd

  • E33 - Myofascia and The ECM - How to Unlock a Pain Free Life and Live Happy
Take control of your mind and body. We humans are a crazy creatures endowed with crazy powers. None more powerful that our ability to think and move. Our mobile bodies allow for our mind to be mobile. Our mobile bodies allow us to share what is inside our mind and put our imagination into reality. Movement breaks down into the bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and the nervous system. However, this list is missing a major player in the game... the fascia. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects every part of the body together. It connects bones to bones, muscles to muscles, muscles to bone so on and so on. So yes the tendons and ligaments are fascia, but for this episode I want to talk more about the myofascia. This is the fascia that surrounds, supports, and binds the muscles together. Let's learn about it to appreciate it, understand it, and control it. | Show notes: https://awesound.com/@The_ScienceBro/e33?auid=aGZcKxNd

  • E32 - Cells - Be More Awesome By Understanding What You Are Made Of
This episode you will provide you with a deeper understanding of what makes you the awesome thing that you are. Each nook and cranny of you, me, and us is made up of tiny little cells. The amount of cells that make us up is to big of a number for us to ever comprehend. But these little things make up our minds and bodies. You start as one cell and grow to Ten Thousand Trillion cells. Cells that know exactly what to do and have only your health and happiness in mind. We don't teach them, they allow us to be taught. We don't have to think about them, but they are always thinking about us. We are made of cells and we are a "we" because of these amazing protein making machines. | Show notes: https://awesound.com/@The_ScienceBro/e32?auid=aGZcKxNd

  • E31: Endosymbiosis - How Biology Trapped Lighting Inside Your Cells
Everything you do in life requires energy, ATP. Your body is the pinnacle of complexity, but this complexity needs energy to express it. 3.8 billion years ago a crazy event took place by chance that turned you into what you are today. This is that story of Endosymbiosis. The story of how two bacteria came together to create the first complex cell. A cell that now had a surplus of energy. Energy that could now be used to create all of the human experiences of today. We are born to live a dynamic life, but to be active you require fuel. Fuel that our mitochondria turns into ATP and that is why you are alive. Let's celebrate this! | Show notes: https://awesound.com/@The_ScienceBro/e31?auid=aGZcKxNd

  • E30 - I'm Running a Marathon... Why? Science Yo!
A few months ago I decided to sign up for my first marathon, but not two minutes after signing up I was asked the most popular question of the last three months... "why would you do that?" My answer is simple, I want to show people that the wonderful human body can do great things. I want my students to see that you can adapt to whatever environment you choose and achieve whatever goals strike you in the now. I run to challenge my biology and to enjoy the ups and downs in the training for this. Science truly does motivate me people and I hope this episode can motivate you to get a new goal started. | Show notes: https://awesound.com/@The_ScienceBro/e30-im-running-a-marathon-why-science-yo?auid=aGZcKxNd

  • E29- The Sights and Sounds of the Now, Becomes the Feelings of Life
Our senses allow our epic bodies to take the inputs surrounding us and give it to our minds. Our minds will then turn the world into physical data. Humans are able to take this data and turn it into emotions, feelings, and ideas. The sounds and sights of the world integrate together in perceptions of the now. The body-mind connection is so strong and uses these senses every moment of the day. Humans sense the world and we turn those perceptions in the wonders of art, music, and language. We feel the world, we see the world, we are the world. | Show notes: https://awesound.com/@The_ScienceBro/e29-the-sights-and-sounds-of-the-now-become-the?auid=aGZcKxNd

  • E19 - Kepler, Exoplanets, Goldi-Locks Zone and This Life
Kepler recently discover 1,285 new exoplanets (planets around distant stars) which has moved us closer to stating that planets are more common than stars. The Kepler telescope has opened our minds, data, and imagination about planets, even rocky planets, being very common out there in the Milky Way. Pondering the concepts of goldi-locks conditions made my brain ponder just how many special/perfect facets of life make us up. This expanding existence, when pondered, shows us that we are circles upon circles of awesomeness. | Show notes: https://awesound.com/@The_ScienceBro/e19?auid=aGZcKxNd
