As we are bombarded with ads and the holidays shopping season is upon us, what do we focus on? That despite all the noise, we all need the Lord who is mindful of us. The Lord who has done it all. The Psalms ask "what is man that you are mindful of them" in other words we might says it as, "don't you have better things to do". Yet the God of all creation, is mindful of you so we turn to hear his words for us over the words of the world around.

Grieve with Hope 

Many are concerned, about death, or we don't know how to address it. Death is painful. We feel the suffering. Many try to hide death. Why does death seem still to have such a sting, if Christ has won the victory?As the year winds down, we hear the call that God calls us to join together. Not to tackle death alone. For we have a message of faith about a God who broken wide open on Easter Sunday. For in the midst of the pain and lost, God has entered in with victory. This is not an action to be done alone for we live together in the hope that Easter has given us. For He has promised that we will be with him forever.

Remember What Has Been Given to You

READINGS

 Rev. 7:9–17

1 John 3:1–3

We remember those who came before us, and we worship knowing death is not the end.

If we’re honest, we don’t know what to do with death in our culture. When someone we know loses a loved one, we don’t know what to say. When we lose someone precious to us, we don’t know how to ask the living for what we need. Too often people go inward and close out others. They grieve alone. Many act like they are the only ones grieving

Revelation is a reminder that for the early Christians and for many of our sisters and brothers around the world today, death was a constant reality.

Yet, when we find this reality of death, as Christians, we are reminded that God has given us an answer. For faith didn’t come out of nowhere; it is a gift from God, We are united as a church with those who had come before. Perhaps the reason we have such a hard time with death in our culture is that we are so quick to forget that faith is not merely personal.

Blocked Gratitude - Gospel Disappointment

READINGS 
Romans 3:19–28
 John 8:31–36 
 Deuteronomy 34:1–12 


Moses has earned the right to cross that river and enter the promised land, surely. Yet, that is not what we find out. It’s easy to read a passage like this and become distracted by the seemingly graceless way in which God treats Moses. Often, we can look at our lives and our lives of faith and become disappointed. The word “disappointment” means what it sounds like, to miss an appointment. To have a scheduled expectation broken, a previously calendared promise erased. The greater the promise, the more devastating its disappearance. Many people who have been through the wringer of life have a long list of complaints against their Maker. It’s no wonder that so many well-intentioned followers of Christ find their faith dashed against the rocks of disappointment. It’s hard to be grateful when the thing you most want and need and desire and pray for is taken away. As we celebrate the Reformation, we are reminded of the step back we often need to take. That there is great power in those who see their own stories as a part of something greater. For we hear how Moses knew this spends his last breaths in blessing and praise. For, none of us can assign meaning to someone else’s suffering, but we can find meaning in the one who suffered on our account.
