“Why New Year’s Resolutions Fail… and What Actually Works”
Welcome back to Beauty Flip, where we take the cultural scripts we’ve inherited about beauty, success, and being a “better human”… and turn them inside out.
Today we’re talking about the annual ritual that so many of us participate in with equal parts hope and dread: New Year’s resolutions.
Every January, millions of people declare that this will be the year they finally fix themselves. Lose the weight. Get organized. Be more disciplined. Stop procrastinating. Start meditating. Become the shinier, more optimized version of themselves (and ultimately further up the "uneven playing field.")
And by February? Most of those resolutions have quietly dissolved.
Not because people are weak. Not because they lack willpower. But because the entire resolution model is built on a lie—the lie that transformation comes from self‑pressure, self‑correction, and self‑surveillance.
Resolutions fail because they start with a wound:“I’m not enough as I am… so I must become something else.”
And anything built on self‑rejection cannot sustain real change.
So today, we’re flipping the script.
Instead of resolutions, we’re talking about visioning—the kind of vision that rises from your lifeforce, not your shame. I give you six steps that help you develop a powerful way to flip your script and become the person you deeply dream to be.
We’re talking about goals that emerge from desire, alignment, and truth, not punishment. We’re talking about setting up your year in a way that honors your humanity, your rhythms, your body, your values, and your actual lived life.
This episode is your permission slip to stop trying to “fix” yourself and start listening to yourself. To stop forcing outcomes and start cultivating conditions. To stop chasing the fantasy version of you and start partnering with the real you.
Because the most powerful changes don’t come from resolutions. They come from being willing to face the truth of who you are and who you deeply yearn to be.
Let’s flip it.
Edda brings in powerful quotes from Albert Einstein, “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand," and “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them," as two guides in Edda's six steps. She also calls on Alfred Adler and how he spoke to creating goals as well as using "Gemeinschaftsgefühl" (Adler’s core concept meaning “social interest,” “community feeling,” or “sense of belonging to the human community.” It’s the idea that psychological health comes from feeling connected, contributing, and participating in the larger whole.)
These all together give you a powerful way to make your resolutions stick.
