We talk with Sarah Hunt about her PhD research across 3 different areas of England with a particular focus on education. 

This is our 12th and final podcast episode of our first season. We discuss the journey of the school year as we approach the summer holiday period across the UK. We are also joined by Javed Khan, Barnardo's CEO, who discusses his journey within education and some key messages for education staff.

We are joined by the internationally renowned clinician and researcher Dr. Bruce D. Perry whose work on the impact of abuse, neglect and trauma on the developing brain has been so influential. In the episode, Dr Perry discusses the release of his book "What Happened to You?" co - written by Oprah Winfrey, and its relevance within UK education settings. 

This episode will focus on Mental Health Awareness Week (10th - 16th May). The theme for this week is "Nature" and we were delighted to be joined by Claire Reid (Project Co-Ordinator - B-Wild Project) who discusses her passion for nature and how we can use this to benefit our own mental health, alongside the importance of bringing nature into education environments. We finish the podcast episode with 3 top tips from Emma Gladwinfield (GP), who lets us know the best ways to connect with nature.

In our 9th episode, we will be looking at the important area of stress and how this can have an impact on those working with children and young people. We will feature interviews within our Barnardo's team to discuss their journey with stress over the last 14 months, along with some feature discussions across a variety of education settings. 

Stress can impact us all at any given time. The Mental Health Foundation found that 74% of UK adults felt so stressed at some point over the last year they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope. Please reach out to friends, colleagues or professional services if you are struggling.

In today's episode, we are joined by Nicola Reed of Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland, who discussed the recent pandemic and the impact this has had on adults and young people alike in regards to bereavement and loss. At the time of recording, the majority of schools across the UK are enjoying their spring break and we hope all education staff members has had a chance to unwind and re-charge.

Our 4th episode will feature discussions around loss and the impact that this has had on children and young people throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, particularly during periods of lockdown and tighter restrictions across the UK.

With the Education Community website launching, we are joined by Marie Thomas, Project Worker 3, who will share the resources available to support educational professionals with loss. We are also joined by Alicia Ewington, Suicide Prevention Advisor with Papyrus, as we aim to get a wider picture of how young people have been coping over the last year.
