Becoming Aware of Your Anxiety Triggers

Listen Later

Knowing your anxiety triggers can keep you vigilant in your awareness of anxiety attacks & hopefully minimize how much anxiety you experience by being knowing what contributes to those feelings. I'm sharing 10 Common Anxiety Triggers many of us struggle with.

Show Notes:
Anxiety sucks. It’s a terrible thing that creeps up on you & takes you in a chokehold. When I experience anxiety, it’s almost as someone else has taken over my mind & body & is holding me captive. Anxiety sucks.

We talk a lot about triggers here & how it’s important to be aware of your own personal triggers that wake & exacerbate feelings, emotions & reactions in us due to so many different experiences. And if you’re unaware of what a trigger is, here’s a quick definition: a trigger is a type of stressor that leads to an adverse emotional reaction from a remembered experience or being reexposed to a negative experience or something similar. This could be seeing someone that has hurt you, being back in a place where something terrible has happened or seeing something that reminds you of a bad memory.

And as important as it is to be aware of as many triggers as possible, which will help you shift your mindset out of fear when confronted with those things, it can be more helpful to focus on triggers for something many of us struggle with to draw more awareness on what to watch out for. Knowing some common anxiety triggers can keep us vigilant & hopefully minimize how much anxiety we experience by being aware of what contributes to those feelings.

That's why I wanted to share with you 10 Common Triggers for Anxiety. Awareness is key with mindset struggles & the first step to take when wanting to make change and overcome is to no longer let these things hold you captive. None of these things are the typical sleep, diet, alcohol, watching the news. But just know, sometimes you won’t always be able to be aware of when a trigger comes on because it can happen suddenly. That is when you need to use your skills of responding rather than reacting, which I will talk about next episode.

  1. Having to confront someone.
  2. Having to change your routine/the way you’re doing things.
  3. Family Stress (this could be abuse, finances, relationship struggles)
  4. Lack of control over situations.
  5. Not feeling prepared/ready to do something.
  6. Overstimulation (parties, large groups, busy environments).
  7. Judgement & criticism.
  8. Lack of goals or goals with sky high expectations.
  9. Fear of failure.
  10. Fear of being alone.
