In what he describes as a life-changing experience, Russell Dalgleish found himself standing on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square at 4am, wearing a kilt and waving a large Saltire flag. He was doing so as one of 2,400 people who took part in the project by sculptor Antony Gormley, enabling them to appear as a temporary living work of art.

Ian Houston serves as President of the Scottish Business Network (SBN) US and as Ambassador in Washington, DC. He creates linkages between Scotland and the U.S. across sectors. In addition, he writes a monthly column for the Herald Scotland called 'Letter from America.'

Ian serves as the Development Chair of the DACOR Bacon House in Washington, DC and is on the board of The Robert Burns Ellisland Farm and Museum near Dumfries. 

He created a consulting entity called ‘Clydebuilt’ through which he developed a series of conversations with former US secretaries of state, senators, ambassadors, CEOs, and academics focused on leadership.  

Houston served for many years as the Executive Director of the American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) supporting diplomats and diplomacy, was an advocate for the global poor and humanitarian engagement and worked in the U.S. Congress.  

He said – “I feel like I’m an average person in many respects who’s had these remarkable experiences and I’m not sure why it happened, but I’ve found myself in quite unique situations meeting with presidents, ambassadors and senators and I’m grateful for that.

He is the author of a book of poetry called Under Candle Bright, the proceeds of which support the Glasgow based charity Mary's Meals.

Brave, fierce and proudly Scottish, Menstrie lass Claire is an international business owner who traded corporate life for entrepreneurship in 2012.  Leadership signs shined through from a young age.  Claire has always been personable, empathetic and hugely driven and now she inspires others through her business endeavours to get the best out of themselves.

The network is currently in 11 countries and working on seven international trade projects, all achieved in under 1.5 years in operation. Angela Burton is the Founder & Chief Writing Motivator of Feet to the Fire Writers' Workshops®, a creative program that inspires older adults to challenge themselves through expressive writing. Started in Louisville, KY in 2014, Feet to the Fire has expanded to develop a licensed train-the-facilitator program for senior living communities and wellness organizations.
