I was blindsided with the overwhelm and lack of enjoyment when I became a mother.

Had preeclampsia with my first and bedrest for 3 weeks. Was induced at 39 weeks

She was in the NICU for 4 days. Had struggles with breastfeeding both.

World-renowned researcher Dr. Dawn Kingston shares new insights regarding the impact of a mother's mental health on fetal development in her upcoming U.S. book release, Your Brain on Pregnancy (September 17, 2024). Within it, she leverages her over 25 years of expertise (including as a NICU nurse) to share groundbreaking insights at the intersection of maternal mental health and fetal development. A timely topic, in 2023, the White House, under the advisement of the Centre for Disease Control and the American Psychiatric Association, issued a report stating that the United States faces alarmingly high rates of perinatal mental health conditions, such as prenatal & postpartum depression and anxiety, and tragically, these preventable conditions are the leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths in the country.
