Hi all,
In this episode I talk a little about my life in Nome Alaska so we can get to know each other better and then I dive into the idea of being your child's main person and what that means. My daughter calls me her "main person" and not because I am the person that she wants to spend the most time with or wants to tell everything to or owes anything to. I am the person that she can tell her hardest and deepest struggles and know that she doesn't have to take care of my feelings and emotions. That I will manage my own mind and keep myself mentally fit enough to be able to listen fully and take thoughtful, discerning action if necessary. That I won't freak out and make it about me and my feelings. If you become your child's "main person" there won't be a lot of looking outside of your home for comfort in ways that are destructive or have struggles that are so unbearable that it is hard to get over them.
