What Does It Mean to Stand Out?

Some people just have it - that undeniable aura that surrounds them, no matter where they go. That's what I call PRESENCE, and in the final week of Beer, Biz + BS,  I'm talking to two women who seem to have been born with loads of it!

Why is PRESENCE Important?

He founded his “Live Your Dreams Out Loud” movement and penned his book to inspire those whose dreams have been held captive by fear.

It’s the final episode of Beer, Biz + BS, and I’m speaking with one of my absolute favorite craft beer friends: Chris (also known as @theecraftbeerconnoisseur). When the pandemic sidelined her corporate and rideshare gigs, she had to learn new and innovative ways to push her brand while not being face to face with the public.  

But despite it all, she’s found a way to strike a better balance between navigating a global crisis and every day living. Chris is one of those people who always seems to be having a good time, even when the rest of us are not. I’m excited to talk with her about how she’s been able to incorporate fun and therapeutic hobbies into her daily routine in order to make the best of her new found free time.

I met Amy over a year ago at a beer meet up for Craft Women Connect, a group that encourages and educates women of all backgrounds about craft beer. We were at Tucker Brewing sitting next to each other and began talking about our beer businesses. I learned quickly that we had a lot in common, so we maintained a connection after that initial meet up. We've chatted regularly by DM, email and text since that day about our businesses, sometimes venting about how slow the start up process can be. Ugh!  

Round Trip has been in the process of opening the brewery for three years. As COVID was starting, they faced the same issue that I did - the bank dropped processing of their SBA loan and suddenly they did not have funding to finish the project. In our discussion, we’ll learn what Round Trip did to continue to make progress toward building their dream business!

It’s wild how quickly things can change!  Before the pandemic, Imari Havard ran a successful event marketing company (have you ever heard of “Play Date Atlanta”?). But when the pandemic hit, everything changed. Gone were the times of gathering by the hundreds in one venue! Imari quickly shifted gears, and now he’s working in the world of real estate. 

In this episode, we'll talk about what it’s been like to learn an entirely new industry on the fly.

Entrepreneurship is so intensely personal. Though there are 31 million entrepreneurs in the U.S., it can still feel like a very lonely and isolating road. Compound that with industry dynamics, and it can feel even worse. It helps to have a counterpoint -  a source of balance to even things out when needed.    

Jonathan Pascual - owner and operator of Taproom Coffee & Beer in Kirkwood - advises us to be vulnerable enough to lean on others when feeling isolated and hopeless. He prioritizes his spiritual health and lives on purpose for the sake of others and not for himself.
