Before They Were Famous

Over fifteen years ago now, “Everybody Hates Chris” premiered on UPN to massive critical acclaim. The series was based upon the childhood of superstar comedian Chris Rock growing up in Brooklyn, New York, and adapted for television with some narrative tweaks. For instance, in real life, Chris has more siblings than he does in the show. And funny “Everybody Hated Chris” most definitely was. More than that, it was also poignant. The talented cast and crew behind this series were always willing to examine everything from race relations to old-world family dynamics. During the course of its run, the series’ initial home, UPN, transformed into what we now know as The CW, and the series would ultimately find itself canceled in 2009 in an effort to shift the channel’s brand away from comedy and into more dramatic efforts... You know, like the million different Arrowverse series that we’re now so blessed to have. Thankfully, you can’t keep a good showdown and once fans re-discovered this series on Netflix and syndicated runs, it created a whole new life for this televised masterpiece. So, today, I thought we’d take a look back at where each of the talented primary cast members is today on our newest episode of Where Are They Now?

The inclusion of Gen Z influencers into his videos has allowed Dhar Mann to take his content to an entirely different level. Sure there are plenty of people who call it cringe content but then there are the billions of people who are eating it up and have become passionate members of the Dhar Mann Fam. Kudos to him! BUT.... seeing as this is Before They Were Famous. It appears that Dhar Mann's first shot at being an internet entrepreneur was in the world of medical cannabis. Take a look for yourself.

Back in the year 2010, film director Edgar Wright adapted a story from Brian Lee O’Malley’s series of graphic novels titled: “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World”. The film revolves around a young Torontonian named Scott Pilgrim played by Michael Cera whose life is turned upside down when he meets the mysterious and beautiful Ramona Flowers portrayed by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. As it turns out, Ramona, well, she’s got a bit of a past and it’s up to Scott to win her affections by defeating several of her former boyfriends in a series of video game-inspired fights. And if you’ve never seen the film before, just know that – Yes, it really is as awesome as it sounds. In order to bring this energetic story to the silver screen, Edgar assembled an incredible cast that included a whole ton of actors who were right on the cusp of major stardom including the likes of Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick, Ellen Wong, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman, and a couple soon to be Marvel superstars who you might have heard of before in Brie Larson and Chris Evans. But where are all these talented superstars now and how did “Scott Pilgrim” help them reach such massive heights?
