Beginning to Believe

My all-time favourite book is a book that was written many years ago and is now out of print.

And almost no-one has ever heard of it, which is a shame, because it's one awesome book!

I think the reason I love is because it embodies this journey of awakening that we're all on, and the excitement of the adventures.

The Elves and The Shoemaker is one of my favourite stories from my childhood.

And I think part of the reason that I love it so much is that it embodies the very lesson I am here to learn.

I've been able to take a longer view of my life so far, and see the main theme of my life.

And every experience I've had in my life so far ties in somehow to this recurring pattern.

Seeing this pattern helps me to enjoy the journey, and to see purpose in my experiences.

To give you an idea of what kind of prayer you might craft for yourself, here's an example of a very personal prayer I created.

Remember, it doesn't matter what your prayer sounds like to anyone but you.

Following on my previous thoughts about the true power of prayer, it's important to choose a prayer that works for you.

Whether it's a prayer from someone else, or one that you craft for yourself, it's vitally important that it makes you feel the way you want to feel.

Many of us use prayers that have been given to us, without really thinking about whether they work for us.

The most important part of any prayer that we recite is not the words, or even who wrote it.

It's something else.

We tend to think worry is useful, because we're planning ahead for "bad things" that might happen if we don't.

But what we're actually doing is praying for something bad to happen.

So let's use our worrying more constructively.

I know I've said before that you can't use logic to quiet your inner critic.

But if you approach it the right way, you can actually use your mind to stop worry in its tracks.

That inner voice can say some really nasty things sometimes.

But there is a way to soothe it and teach it that saying nasty things doesn't work that works really powerfully.
