This evening we discuss the main Mitzvah in our Parsha - Shmita, the Sabbatical Year, which is this year in the Jewish calendar, 5782. We trace its premise - that the world, and everything in it, belongs to God, and we are simply stewards and caretakers - in the obligation to lend money without charging interest, and why we don't translate the word Tzedaka as charity. We distinguish between authentic trust in God and the naive belief everything will be ok. We pose the question Shmita demands we consider - how we value and spend our time. And we tell the remarkable story of Ilana and Doron Toweg, Israeli farmers who, along with thousands of others, are not planting or harvesting their fields this year.
