Welcome back! We at Behind the Bar hope you had a fantastic summer (and missed us a little bit). We are starting our 7th season with a soul classic, Curtis Mayfield's tape Curtis. Join us on yet another adventure as we break down some groovy and orchestral tracks that laid the ground work for modern black socially conscious music. The boys and Curtis work on their sociology and a cappella skills, talk record sides, and divulge Kanye's last great album (take a wild guess). On today's episode we break down an old school blues classic, diving into the instruments, themes, and geographical knowledge present on the album. The Paul Butterfield Blues Band delivers some fiery harmonica, smooth electric guitar, and snappy drums on a tape that also veers into some less traditional sounds near the end.
