  • I Know I’m on the Right Mountain

I have less certainty about my destination, but more certainty that I’m going in the right direction…

In this episode, I talk about:

    * Why the biggest takeaway from Create & Cultivate had less to do with the speakers and more to do with how I showed up.

    * What the event’s logistical issues reminded me about building at scale and what happens when a business gets stress tested.

    * Why I think people can walk into the exact same room and leave with completely different experiences.

    * What Alix Earle made me think about when it comes to trust, influence, and the relationship between a creator and their audience.

    * The difference between being the person people buy through and becoming the business they buy from.

    * Why Emma Grede’s approach to hiring, money, and actually understanding the business stood out to me.

    * Why hearing successful women talk openly about money made me want bigger things for myself.

    * The part of the weekend that made me realize how much I’ve been minimizing 16 years of entrepreneurship.

    * Why I’m learning to trust that I don’t need to know exactly where this next chapter is going for it to be the right one.

  • Are You So Busy Becoming That You Forgot to Be?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the difference between becoming and being.

I am someone who will probably always be climbing up. a bigger vision, a better version of myself, another mountain… I love that about me, and I have no desire to lose my ambition.

BUT I also don’t want to become so obsessed with where I’m going that I miss where I already am.

This episode is a conversation about learning to be where your feet are. About letting one foot reach toward the future while keeping the other planted firmly in today.

About gratitude, presence, the tiny glimmers that make a life feel full… Remembering that who you are right now deserves to be enjoyed too.

Because if we keep telling ourselves we’ll enjoy the view once we reach the top, we might miss a pretty incredible view on the way up.

  • Friendships: The Cost of Being an Ambitious Woman

A little note before you listen:This one is more personal than business, but maybe that’s the point. We spend so much time talking about what we’re building that we don’t always talk about what we’re sacrificing, neglecting, or learning to make space for behind the build.

I spent years prioritizing my business, my growth, my career, and telling myself friendships were a bonus, not a focus.

Now, I’m seeing there was a cost to that…

In this episode, I’m talking about friendship breakups, feeling unchosen, raising my standards for the people around me, and what happens when the strong, independent, ambitious woman realizes she actually needs support.

I was so used to being the person who handled everything that I didn’t always know how to ask for help, so naturally the people around me didn’t always know when I needed it either.

This season has forced me to look at the relationships I’ve outgrown, the ones I want to make more space for, and the kind of friendships I want to build moving forward.

    Because friendships deserve space too.

  • Get Comfortable Being Bad at Things

Apparently I thought recording a podcast while riding a bike was a good idea, so welcome to a very brief and slightly out-of-breath episode of Behind the Build.

Today’s thought: how willing are you to be a beginner again?

After avoiding one of my hardest aerial classes because I knew I wouldn’t be where I used to be, I finally went back. And surprise... I wasn’t starting from zero nearly as much as I had convinced myself I was.

A little reflection on being willing to suck at something, putting yourself in rooms where you’re not the best, and remembering that sometimes you’re not actually a beginner. It just feels like it.

Will I record another episode from my bicycle? TBD. The Explorer archetype in me clearly needed to try it at least once.

If you also like to experiment, follow the idea, and figure out the path as you go, you might be an Explorer too.

  • But, Are You a Millionaire?

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how willing I am to actually be seen.

Not just show up online… I do that.

But really OWN the things I’ve done without immediately wanting to add a disclaimer or explain why maybe it doesn’t count as much as it sounds like it does.

Recently someone on threads asked me, “But are you a millionaire?” after I was talking about building million-dollar businesses and honestly, it triggered me a little bit.

    Because no, I’m not. ((yet))

And for a second I really sat there wondering… does that mean I shouldn’t talk about what I’ve done? Does building millions of dollars for other people somehow count less because I haven’t done it in the exact same way for myself?

And I realized there’s still this little residue of not feeling good enough that I’m working through.

Which is so contradicting because I am incredibly confident. When I work with clients, I am unshakable. I know what I’m doing. I know the value I bring. I own the s**t out of my work.

But building something around me has been a completely different beast.

I’ve been able to hide behind brands. Behind projects. Behind other people being the face.

Now I’m having to sit with who I am without all of that.

Who am I without the accolades? Who am I without the million-dollar successes? Who am I when something I post flops or I test something and nobody buys it?

And I think that’s what this season has really been about for me.

Realizing I get to own everything I’ve done.

The person who did those things was me. It was my brain. My strategy. My ability to connect dots. My thoughtfulness. My mistakes. All of it.

Doing something differently now doesn’t undo the last 16 years of what I’ve built.

I can be incredibly confident and still have moments of doubt… Both can exist.

I just don’t have to feed the part of me that whispers “I’m not good enough.”

I can acknowledge it. I can understand where it came from. I can love that version of myself a little harder.

And then I can keep going.

Because f*ck that. I know that I’m great.

And I think this is where I’m catching myself in real time.

My business has generated over a million dollars in its lifetime.

Like… why have I never celebrated that?

Why is my immediate reaction to explain why it doesn’t really count? Why have I never thrown a party? Why haven’t I let myself be proud of that without immediately adding an asterisk?

That’s literally what I’m talking about.

I can be incredibly confident and still have these little pockets where I minimize myself. Where I move the goalpost. Where something I would be screaming from the rooftops for one of my clients somehow isn’t enough when it’s mine.

    And I’m done doing that.

I get to own what I’ve built. I get to celebrate it. I get to be really f*****g proud of myself AND still want more.

Those things don’t cancel each other out.

So maybe this entire episode was just me realizing I’m overdue for a million-dollar party.

    MILLI PARTY coming soon? lol

    But actually…

  • What do you mean gratitude is overwhelming?

This episode feels a little different because I recorded it from one of my favorite places to go when I need to feel grounded, sitting in the grass, looking at the water, with boats, music and apparently a lotttt of mosquitoes in the background.

I have been reflecting on how much has shifted over the last few months. I launched the second round of my Substack Accelerator, 22 women said yes, Behind the Build hit #94 Rising in Business and Top Seller, new opportunities have been opening up, and there have been so many little winks along the way that I almost cannot ignore them.

But this episode is really about what happens when you come out of a deeper season and suddenly there is so much good to take in.

I talk about the metaphor that has stayed with me for months: strong swimmers can still drown. You can be capable, getting things done, solving problems and still be tired from constantly trying to keep your head above water.

And now that life feels lighter, I am realizing how intentional I want to be about actually experiencing it.

We talk 818, divine timing, the weirdly perfect file name that stopped me in my tracks, gratitude that almost feels overwhelming, and why I keep coming back to one simple reminder:

    Be where your feet are.

I know there is more ahead of me. I hope there is a day when 22 feels tiny compared to what I have built, but I never want it to feel less significant.

This episode is the raw version of where I am right now. A little rambling, very real, and me trying to soak in a season that feels really, really good.

  • 13 Years In and I Finally Let Go

You can be doing fine and not be okay.

I was getting out of bed. I was making my bed. I was getting work done. And every single morning… I was talking myself into the day.

This episode is deeply honest. I talk about the season I didn’t want to name, why I refused to call it what it was, and the thing I finally had to take accountability for: I trained the people around me to not recognize when I needed support, because I never asked for it.

I also talk about what came after. The clarity. The community I didn’t know I needed that badly. What I finally let go of, and what it made room for.

13 years as a full-time entrepreneur. This was the hardest one. And I’m still here.

Just because you know how to swim doesn’t mean you won’t drown.

You don’t always get a big flame. Sometimes you just get a spark, and the job is keeping it alive until it’s a flame again. That’s what the last few months have been. Keep showing up. Keep going. Keep following the spark. Keep getting s**t done.

PS. If you didn’t know, Substack Accelerator doors are open and we start 8.18.

  • I’m Not Who I Was, but I’m Not Who I’m Becoming Yet. WTF Do I Do Now?

My life is changing faster than I have the words to explain it.

I could tell you about the projects.

The app that’s slowly coming to life.

The coaching programs that continue to evolve.

The conversations happening behind closed doors.

The ideas scribbled across notebooks and notes.

But none of those things really capture what’s changing.

I can explain the feeling a little better.

For over a decade, my life revolved around building other people’s dreams.

I stepped into businesses and treated them like they were my own. I obsessed over strategy, growth, systems, launches, and opportunities. I cared deeply about the people behind the brands, and I think that’s exactly what made me good - great - at what I do.

I wasn’t clocking in and clocking out.

    I was invested.

I wanted to see people win.

    More soon.

  • I Had Been Preparing for This Longer Than I Realized

When I wrote When Preparation Meets Opportunity , I was reflecting on the work that happens before anyone is watching. Since then, I have had the chance to see what that preparation makes possible.

In this episode, I share the unexpected encounter with a stranger, and the moments that reminded me that impact is not measured by the size of the room.

The stage did not create the message. It revealed the work I had already done.

Months of writing, documenting, reflecting, and learning how to communicate what I believe prepared me to be present when the opportunity arrived. None of that work felt significant while I was doing it. It gave me the language and confidence I needed when the stage appeared.

Some of the moments that have been the most impactful or significant have not happened on a stage. And although this experience gave me the privilege of speaking in a theater, I also think back to that moment on the street. It reminded me to give the compliment, share your gifts, and pour into other people. You never know what someone is carrying or what your words of encouragement might mean to them.

So if there is anything you take away from today, it is to share.

In this episode, I talk about:

    * What speaking at Femland taught me about preparation and presence

    * Why writing became part of my preparation (and why I love Substack for this reason alone)

    * The encounter with a stranger that changed how I think about affirmation

    * Why meaningful impact cannot always be measured by audience size

    * How kind words, recognition, and genuine attention can shape someone’s day

    * Why every milestone deserves to be experienced before we rush toward what comes next

The Substack Accelerator opens in August. If you have been thinking about starting a Substack, growing your audience, and making money from what you know, this is for you.

I’m sharing the process I’ve used to turn my ideas into content, grow my subscribers, and build offers people want to buy. You already know something worth sharing. I’m going to help you package it, publish it, and get paid for it.

  • My First Business: What Still Works 10 Years Later

I’m bringing this episode back because it’s been a trending question lately. What did I do 10 years ago to build my first business, and what still applies today?

I’m deep in teacher mode right now. I’ve been sharing so much more here about the years behind the wins, the decisions I made before I knew exactly what I was doing, and the lessons that only became clear after building, growing, pivoting, and starting again. There’s a lot I can see now that I couldn’t fully explain when I was living it.

I want to go back and connect those dots for you. Not just tell you what I built, but show you how I thought, what worked, what didn’t, and what I would carry into a business today. So if you haven’t read or heard this story yet, this is a good place to start.

Stay tuned for more lessons about not only what I built, but how I built it, coming right here for my subscribers.

If you’re building your first business, your second, or working toward seven figures, I would love to know where you are and what you’re trying to figure out. I want what I share here to be useful, so your questions will help shape what I teach next.

The fact that you trust me with a place in your inbox means a lot. I read your replies, and I’ll do what I can to help.

I’m forever grateful that I landed here with you.
