  • BEHIND THE LENS #82: Featuring Scott Hecker and Theo Taplitz
If you missed this week's BEHIND THE LENS live, you definitely want to take a listen now to two very special guests, SCOTT HECKER and THEO TAPLITZ! As if each isn't accomplished and interesting enough in their own right, when these two start talking sound design together, it is a true meeting of the minds and the generation gap disappears.
While many of you may not recognize the name, SCOTT HECKER, you know his work well. An Academy Award, BAFTA and Emmy nominee, as a Supervising Sound Editor and Sound Designer with Formosa Group, Scott is one of the "sound guys" playing in the sonic sandbox creating an unforgettable auditory experience for moviegoers in films ranging from "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice", "Mad Max: Fury Road", "300" and "Man of Steel" to his earlier pre-Formosa work in films like "Sommersby", "King Ralph" and even working as a foley editor on "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back." You'll be as amazed as I as Scott regales some fun anecdotes about his work in the field these past few decades, including creating "walking sounds" for Chewbacca in "The Empire Strikes Back", one of his first sound jobs! And listen to Scott tell us about creating specialty sounds for the Batmobile and Batwing in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", not to mention his lessons on working with voices, and at the heart of everything – creativity. Filmmakers will embrace Scott's knowledge and vision! (And not to worry. Scott will be back in the future!)
One filmmaker who received the benefit of Scott's expertise directly today is THEO TAPLITZ. A filmmaker in his own right, Theo is now starring in his first feature film – Ira Sachs' LITTLE MEN. A multiple threat, Theo writes/directs/edits/shoots/acts and does sound on his short films, but now we get to see Theo break out as an actor in a feature film lead with LITTLE MEN. And while Theo talks about LITTLE MEN and getting into his character of "Jake Jardine" and working with Ira Sachs, he also puts on his own director's hat to talk sound design with Scott Hecker!
One of the best BTL's yet, folks!

  • BEHIND THE LENS #79: Featuring Mike Dopud and Dylan Walsh
The guys got it going on this week on BEHIND THE LENS as we welcome actors MIKE DOPUD and DYLAN WALSH!
First up today is DYLAN WALSH. You may know him best as Dr. Sean McNamara from the groundbreaking tv series "Nip/Tuck", but while Dylan has a long and storied career in both tv and film, you've never seen him in any role that even comes close to that of Senator Fallon in the hilarious and farsical C STREET (a more timely film we could never find during this election year and particularly the week of the RNC). And he's talking all about C STREET and more with BTL Radio Show! Then MIKE DOPUD is live from Vancouver. Former pro football player in the Canadian League, former hockey player, stuntman, actor, Mike has done it all and continues to do it all, most notably with his latest film, VIRTUAL REVOLUTION, where every element of his career path comes into play as he tackles the role of Shadow Agent Nash in a virtual world set in 2047 Paris. Plus, a tidbit from legend Robert Redford as he speaks with film critic debbie elias about directing.

  • BEHIND THE LENS #77: Featuring Tara Karsian, Andrea Grano, Jeffrey Vincent Parise, Dan Gauthier and Susanna White
It's a "royal flush" of talent on BEHIND THE LENS as we navigate the poignant and comedic minefield of friendship with BFFs, and then go deep undercover in John le Carre's world of friendship and espionage with OUR KIND OF TRAITOR.
It's all about BFFs as we welcome writers/producers and actresses TARA KARSIAN and ANDREA GRANO, and actors JEFFREY VINCENT PARISE and DAN GAUTHIER live to BTL to talk about, what else, BFFs. Hilarity ensues with Tara and Andrea, but then explodes at the midpoint of the show with Jeffrey and Dan. Amidst the laughter, however, yous'll get some terrific insight from Tara and Andrea on the creative process of writing and pitfalls of producing, while the boys talk performance, finding scripts, the excitement of the BFFs script, role appeal, and more. And yes! All the "General Hospital" fans will love hearing Jeffrey Vincent Parise talk about GH and his character "Carlos Rivera" (especially with a few hints of what may be yet to come), plus some thoughts just for all of the GH faithful.
In the last segment of the show, director SUSANNA WHITE clues us in on elements of OUR KIND OF TRAITOR, including her casting, cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle and helming a spy thriller.

  • BEHIND THE LENS #76: Featuring Sheri Sussman, Ian Buchanan and Benson Lee
This week on BEHIND THE LENS, we welcome back writer/director/producer SHERI SUSSMAN who delivers some exciting news about her deliciously dark comedy short, ONE NIGHT IN HOLLYWOOD. Joining her this time is one of the stars of ONE NIGHT IN HOLLYWOOD, IAN BUCHANAN. You know and loved him in "General Hospital" as Duke Lavery, but in ONE NIGHT IN HOLLYWOOD, you get to see a more "decadent" side of Ian's acting ability. Take a listen as Ian steals the show with his Scottish charm and humor talking about ONE NIGHT IN HOLLYWOOD, and giving us some "General Hospital" tidbits and food for thought.
But before we get to Sheri and Ian, writer/director Benson Lee is talking about his new film, the frothy and fun, SEOUL SEARCHING. Think "Breakfast Club", "Sixteen Candles" and a little bit of "Ferris Bueller" but with a "seoul searching" Korean spin. Filmmakers will appreciate hearing what Benson has to say about music licensing and developing the film soundtrack. Plus, hear more of film critic debbie elias' exclusive interview with FINDING DORY producer Lindsey Collins, along with a few choice words from Ellen DeGeneres, Ed O'Neill and director Andrew Stanton.

  • BEHIND THE LENS #75: Featuring Carole Cook and Jody McVeigh-Schultz
If you missed BEHIND THE LENS live this week, you definitely want to take a listen now to the legendary Carole Cook, writer/director Jody McVeigh-Schultz, and some excerpts of film critic debbie elias' exclusive interview with FINDING DORY producer Lindsey Collins!
Returning again this year to talk about S.T.A.G.E. LA, an event near and dear to her heart, is star of stage and screen, the one and only Carole Cook. As usual, Carole is beyond a hoot and a holler! Now in its 32nd year, STAGE LA is the longest-running annual HIV/AIDS fundraiser in the world. Started in 1984, to date, STAGE has raised more than $7 million for HIV/AIDS organizations in the Southland with monies going to individuals for personal services and care. David Galligan has staged and directed all 32 productions. This year's theme is SONDHEIM No. 5 saluting the music of Stephen Sondheim and boasts a cast of new and old legends. (For tickets go to www.stagela.com. Two shows Saturday, June 18th at 2pm and 8pm at The Wallis in Beverly Hills.) Listen as Carole talks about the show, the cause, and a number she'll be performing which couldn't be more perfect for her - "I’m Still Here" - from Sondheim’s 1971 "Follies". And classic film fans will get a kick out of Carole's reminiscences of Gene Kelly, Lucille Ball and TCM's own Robert Osborne.
And hear editor turned first-time writer/director Jody McVeigh-Schultz talk about the making of ECHO LAKE, marking his feature film directorial debut. Showing us the "humanity of imperfection", ECHO LAKE is quiet poignant beauty with a beautiful cinematic finish and after a successful festival run that started last year, finds its way to multiple VOD platforms this week. Jody has some great insight into cinematography and notably, sound design as viewed through the eyes and ears of an editor. Filmmakers will find what Jody has to say of particular interest.
Interspersed throughout the show, you'll hear excerpts of debbie's exclusive interview with FINDING DORY producer Lindsey Collins as they talk about the journey to find Dory's story and new RIS technology used to make FINDING DORY a resplendent visual delight.
