Behind The Veil

This week it's all about Harmony and Balance. How do you ensure that all of your clients quirky ideas come to life while protecting your brand? How do you also find balance between work and home when your self employed? We all try to be as accessible to our clients as possible, day or night - but at some point something has to give. Our guest this week may have the answers that you are looking for!
Margaux Fraise is the owner and creative director of Harmony Creative Studio, an award-winning boutique wedding firm in Los Angeles, CA. Since moving from retail consulting to events in 2011, her goal has been to design weddings with intention, infusing celebrations with her signature organic and minimal style yet still tailored to each couple.
A Stage IV breast cancer survivor, she has a unique perspective on what is truly valuable in love, life and weddings – and brings that viewpoint to help her clients hone in on what matters to them. As a result, her work has been featured in numerous publications, including Style Me Pretty, Brides, and Green Wedding Shoes, among others.
Margaux serves as a wedding business educator, frequent podcast guest and motivational speaker. Her meticulous onboarding, planning, design and execution procedures have also caught the attention of her peers, and she shares insight regularly on efficient systems for creatives.

Reminder that this show is recorded LIVE.  Todays opening will go on the blooper real when Co-Host Brooke Logan Stoner didn't realize we were live before telling us how her day was REALLY going!  LOL

This week we welcome Eddie Babbage - CEO and Founder of Timeline Genius.  We discussed everything from what is Timeline Genius to our fascination with the British show "Black Mirror".   Definitely worth a listen - but stay on until "After The Veil" when things get deep and the questions get personal.

The host - Keith Willard - said this is one of his favorite all time interviews, up there with Renee Dalo and Meghan Ely.

A wedding typically has the big five - Venue, Catering, Florals, Photography, and Entertainment.  With these covered, you have a party read to go.  But then what about the extras?  This could be everything from favors to nitrogen ice cream.

This week we welcome Amy Fisher - Franchise owner of Frost 321.  Frost provides frozen delights that have been dropped to a negative 321 degrees with the use of Nitrogen.  This includes the ability to freeze alcohol so that it can be integrated with these creamy concoctions, allowing guests to sample such treats as Wicked Chocolate Ice Cream that is make with Johnny Walker Black and Patron Lime Sorbet.

Each scoop has the same alcohol content as a single shot!

The conversation continued to what couples should consider when thinking about adding an "Extra" to the event.  Will the extra add to the overall memory or experience of the guest?  Think about the emotional value of the dollar being spent.

This week we get personal.  Our South Florida community lost a major leader after a long battle with lung cancer.  Her name was Tara Horner and she was loved.

Our Behind The Veil crew talks about the qualities that made her an exceptional leader and how we all do everything that we can to hide what is happening in our personal lives to ensure that our clients have the best day of their lives.

The good and the bad about what we do.  A first-hand look at being an event pro.

Now that we are starting to see the idea of a post COVID-19 world ... What are things that we instituted during Covid that make sense to keep, and what things are going to go bye bye as fast as possible!  Masks, Sanitation Stations, Seating Charts, and more... we even delve into the idea of requiring guests to be vaccinated!

We all agreed that based on the responses, that how you feel about certain subjects related to Covid, are going to join the lists of not to talk about... Politics, Religion, and Covid Vaccinations.

This weeks show, Wedding Nightmares, has been the most requested theme for Behind The Veil. Let's face it - everyone loves a train wreck especially when it's not our own. Every event pro has a story of something crazy, over the top, or totally unexpected! Human beings in general are messy - now throw in a pressure cooker environment like a wedding, with a whole bunch of alcohol, a dash of in laws, a pinch of insecurity, and create a timer with the buttons that parents have installed since you were a child.

The results are usually, and surprisingly, beautiful and amazing. Connections are made, families are brought closer together, and love is celebrated! But in rare moments - more than a dash of this, or more than of pinch of this, and everything goes awry.

So get ready to hear some real doozies! But more importantly, how the pro reacted, that in many cases, saved the day. It will remind you that wedding and event pros are really superheroes in disguise.
