In our June 2018 episode of the 315th Airlift Wing's Behind the Wing podcast, we have a special discussion episode talking about our big D-Day social media reenactment on June 5 and 6.
We also discuss the exciting news about the Air Force’s upcoming switch to the battle uniform. We discuss what changes are planned when the rollout will be and, we answer a few frequently asked questions.
In our extended news segment, we discuss our recently filmed wing mission video – A Legacy of Valor – a project that happens to coincide with the Air Force Reserve’s 70th anniversary. We also talk about the many air shows we are supporting this summer. We’ll tell you about one of our Reserve pilots who is competing in the world military championships this month in Sweden. We also discuss a lighthearted story about the wedding of two of our Reservists aboard a C-17, and then we finish up talking about our recent success last month during our Unit Effectiveness Inspection.

In this special edition of Behind the Wing, we go out to the flight line at the Joint Base Charleston Air & Space Expo and talk to some of the folks participating. We talk to some of the Airmen running the Air Force Recruiting activity area.
We also step into a Charleston C-17 and chat with some of our Aeromedical Evacuation Airmen as they describe their “flying hospital†and the special setup to transport contagious patients.
Next, we climb onboard a C-47 Skytrain from the great state of Texas and chat with the plane’s crew chief. The C-47 has special meaning to us – the 315th Airlift Wing traces its roots back to the troop carrier back in World War II as the 315th Troop Carrier Group.
Then, we transition from yesteryear to modern times and chat with an F-16 Fighting Falcon, "Wild Weasel" pilot from Shaw Air Force Base as he describes what it’s like to be an F-16 fighter pilot.
Then as we close this episode as the Army’s Black Dagger parachute team descends over our heads and lands within a few feet of us.

In our first episode of Behind the Wing for 2018, Maj. Wayne Capps and Michael Dukes kick off the New Year with an extended news segment talking about what’s going on and coming up around the 315th Airlift Wing and Joint Base Charleston.
The first topic they discuss is something everyone in the Charleston area is familiar with – “The Big Freeze!â€Â Mother Nature heralded the New Year with a surprisingly cold winter storm that brought the base and local area to a standstill.
They also talk about a recently humanitarian mission to the island nation of Haiti where members of our 317th Airlift Squadron delivered 3 school buses under the Denton cargo program.
They discuss the 315th Airlift Wing’s Tuskegee Airmen Career Day coming up in February, and Women in Aviation Career Day slated for March.

Julia Lasage or our 315th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron here in Charleston, S.C. to learn what she and her teammates do, including transporting war wounded service members and providing medical assistance during times of disaster.
