The parable of this Sunday is the workers hired at different hours of the day and set to work in the vineyard. All are paid the same wage no matter how many hours they worked. This is a parable to teach us about the generous compassion of God. How fortunate we are!

The parable of the two servants, one of whom lacks mercy and forgiveness, is a clear demonstration of how abundant and every ready is God's love, expressed in mercy and forgiveness. 

The story of Bl. Imelda Lambertini is amazing, and she focuses our attention on the divine love present in the Blessed Sacrament and Holy Communion.

Salvation is available for all who want it.

The essence of the Church's existence is the salvation of souls, that is, bringing souls to Christ so that they may freely choose the salvation won for us and offered to all. 

But, that's a task for the whole Church and for every member. We must become missionary disciples.

St Peter knew what it was like to reach out to Christ in the midst of difficulty and to receive His help. No doubt, he did his more than once in his life. We too have to do this so that we remain close to Him, who has suffered for us. St Mary of the Cross (Mackillop), our first Australian saint, is an outstanding example of this too.

The miracle of the feeding of the 5,000 is a teaching moment, wherein Jesus foreshadows the miracle of the Eucharist. This gospel episode can lead us to contemplate the Holy Eucharist and the effects and fruits of Holy Communion.

Once more, Our Lord teaches us about our life in Christ or the Kingdom of God. To be in Christ and His kingdom is a great treasure and “the pearl of great price”. But being there demands much of us as well as being on the way towards the end times, when the great dragnet of history will be emptied and the sorting begins. In all things, says St Paul, God cooperates with those who love Him.

God has not revealed to us everything. He has not told us every answer to every question or every problem. Perhaps He is protecting us? 

Adam and Eve did want to know everything but then that was their pride and their desire to be like God, at their own pace and timing. 

When we do not understand something, like the question of good and evil existing alongside each other, this is another opportunity to trust God and commend ourselves to His loving plan for the world and our salvation.
