Behold I stand at the door and knock...

Today is St Fidelis' feast day. I wanted to share a little about him. May he intercede for us as we live our faith in this time and place!

The Third Sunday of Easter, with its gospel reading of the appearance of the Risen Jesus to the Apostles in the Upper Room, provides us with an opportunity to reflect upon what the resurrection of the body is. St John Paul II in his great work, "The Theology of the Body", has provided us with magnificent insights into this as he reflects upon both Scripture and the tradition of teaching that the Church has. I share with you some of these magnificent insights with you in this episode.

The great feast of Divine Mercy is upon us!
With what great devotion and love, we should approach our Risen Lord whose death on the  Cross opened for the whole world an "ocean of mercy". Let us approach the Holy Mass with humility and contrition, as there is the sacrifice of Christ which gained for us access to the treasury of Divine Mercy.

Easter Sunday, or to give it the formal liturgical title, The Sunday of the Resurrection ushers in for us a day and a season of great rejoicing as we celebrate in sacred liturgy and in many festive ways in our homes, the reality and fact that Christ is risen from the dead.
I offer two simple reflections upon the Resurrection that I hope are helpful. I came upon them in my reading during recent weeks.
The first comes from a portion of an article written by George Weigel called "The Easter Explosion" and the second from "What Jesus Saw From the Cross", a lovely spiritual classic, by Fr Sertillanges.
The Lord is risen! He is risen indeed!

The Celebration of the Passion of the Lord and The Stations of the Cross mark the way that we as Catholics commemorate the day of Our Lord's death for our sins on the Cross. We remember with gratitude. We follow Him to Calvary with love and sorrow, sharing in the profound sorrow of His holy mother, Mary, who is our sweet mother also.
May the graces of this solemn celebration be with you all, whether you participate in person or online.

The Mass of the Lord's Supper provides rich teaching for us in the Scripture readings that we listen to. I offer some reflections upon some key points from these readings.

Holy Week begins today.
What we have been preparing for through penance, prayer and fasting is close, that is, the solemn commemoration of the Lord's Passion and Death and His glorious resurrection. May your Holy Week be fruitful through keeping the Lord company in prayer, in silence, and, most of all through the Sacred Liturgies of the Holy Triduum.

In the older calendar, still followed in the Extraordinary Form of the Mass, this Sunday begins Passiontide.
There are overtones of this in the Ordinary Form with the Preface of the Passion being used as well as the covering of statues and crucifixes in some churches.
Let us prepare well over the next two weeks for the Easter festivities.

Laetare Sunday is marked by the lovely rose coloured vestments and a real sense of joy, which proclaims through the Sacred Liturgy that the Paschal feasts are edging ever closer to us. So, we much remain faithful in persevering in our Lenten disciplines of prayer, penance, fasting and almsgiving.
This Fourth Sunday of Lent presents to us not only the joy that the mercy of God brings us but also the warnings that it is possible to reject that merciful love and be separated from God for all eternity. While dire are the consequences of rejecting God, there is always mercy for those who turn to God with sorrow for their sins.
