In John 8:2-11, Jesus confronts both public sin and hidden
self-righteousness when religious leaders bring a woman caught in adultery
to shame her and trap Him. By saying the one without sin should cast the first
stone, He exposes their hypocrisy and causes the accusers to leave as their
own consciences convict them. Standing before the only true Judge, the
woman receives mercy rather than condemnation, yet Jesus also calls her to
leave her life of sin. The story reveals the heart of Christ: He refuses both
self-righteous shaming and casual tolerance of sin, offering mercy that leads
to transformation.
