The key to growth is blocking out distractions and anything taking your energy unnecessarily.

This often means saying no more than you say yes and preserving your energy at all costs, like at all costs.

But why is this seen as selfish? I personally think this is a trait that is a accelerator of growth.

People please less and put yourself first more.
