Here are some questions for you as a parent:
• Do you play with your child?
• Do you love watching your child do what he or she loves to do?
• Do you have fun with your child?
• If not, would you like to?
• What if you could play with him or her?
• What would it be like to step beyond the place of your child being a problem, and into the space of celebrating the difference he or she is and enjoying your time together?
• What would it take?
• And what if you don't need to know ahead of time how it's going to turn out?
• If you've not been playing much with your child, what do you do?
What if you just start from where you are right now? Be present! Be you! You might say to your child:
"I love to watch you swim!"
"Can I watch you do that again?"
"Can I play with you?"
Kids who have ADD or ADHD do much better when they are able to be outdoors, spend time with animals, and run around and play.
It's expansive for them. Their bodies love it. They don't do well when they're cooped up in small spaces. They need to be given permission to be on the move!
