The whole human race is divided into two groups: the children of God and the children of the devil. Every child of God "practices righteousness." Obedience, for them, is habitual. Virtue runs in the family. Their desires, choices, and actions are predictably good. Sin is more of a surprise than anything. The children of the devil do the very opposite. The Apostle John brings this to the church's attention, because children from both families can be found there. Which family do you belong to?

Jesus turned allegiance into an either/or issue when He said, "You are either with me, or you are against me." Being "pro-Jesus" therefore, will require you to become "anti-self." And to remain "pro-self" makes you an "anti-Christ". Loyalty into a fence that no one gets to straddle. Pick a side.

Love & Hate are strong words, strong emotions, and strong indications of a person's spiritual condition. Neither sentiment is appropriate in every situation, but everybody, including God Himself, employs the use of both.Sometimes, Love is more favorable than Hate. At other times, Hate is preferrable to Love.
In this study, we learn what to Love, what to Hate, and why it's dangerous to let your emotions make that decision for you.

Can you imagine what it would be like to live with the constant uncertainty of where your next meal would come from? Not knowing if you'd be arrested for your beliefs? Or unsure of whether you'd make it through the night alive? No one would deliberately choose to live under that kind of pressure, yet many do. Can you imagine what it would be like to live with the constant uncertainty of where you'll go when you die? Not knowing if your sins have actually been forgiven? Or unsure of whether you're even a Christian at all? Believers everywhere have chosen to live with that kind of anxiety, even though they don't have to.

Millions of Christians from all over the world trust that Jesus died for their sins. They hold the belief that Christ's sacrifice satisfied God's wrath, cancelled their spiritual debt, and reconciled them to God once and for all. Furthermore, these Christians understand that Jesus rose again from the dead and, at present, occupies a place beside God Himself, affirming our righteousness before Him, even when we sin. Christians everywhere insist that their salvation has been entirely secured, and is fully maintained, by Jesus Christ alone. And even still, Christians from all over the world are trying to do His job themselves.

What do you think compromises your joy more than anything? Your boss? Homework? Your bills, your spouse, or your church?
Things like that are what the majority of the unbelieving world blames for their unhappiness. That might be why they constantly think they need a new job, another college major, more money, a different spouse, or a better church. The Apostle John doesn't agree with any of that.

A fresh heart, received through a successful transplant, isn't guaranteed exemption from trouble. Though it's new, that heart is still just as vulnerable to difficulty, damage, & disease as the last one was. In fact, through simple neglect, it can reduce the quality of living for the recipient to such a degree that the new life begins to feel a lot like the old one did.
This is as true in the spiritual realm as it is in the physical one, and some Christians are on the verge of cardiac arrest. Don't be one of them.

As a heart pumps blood into the furthest extremities of the body, so also is the church meant to pump the gospel into all the world. But like hearts, not all ministries function as they should. What exactly is it that enables a church to bring God's truth to the ends of the earth? Let's dissect a healthy one so we can figure it out.

Christian history is full of commendable people who did commendable things. Moses, for example, parted the Red Sea, Noah built the ark, and David slew the giant. But that's little in comparison to what Phoebe did.

Imagine going to war without knowing whether your fellow comrades even know how to use a gun. That's what it's like when your own personal relationship with Jesus is your sole concern. If you hope to survive the fight, you'd better have a little confidence in the soldiers you're standing next to.
