  • Episode 238: How To Crush the "I'm Too Scared To Hire" Fear
In today's show we're going to talk about hiring employees and those fears that may surround this topic. If you're not into hiring employees, that's totally fine! But if you are, sit back and have a listen as we dive into it all and approach those fears that just may be holding you back from growing your business.

    Show Highlights

    * Topic has been talked about my free Facebook group, Jumpstart Your Pet Business. [1:35]
    * You may have been burned in the past or heard horror stories and that scares you. You feel independent contractors cost you less [2:18]
    * Having independent contractors is a major liability. [3:02]
    * I want you to get confident in your process. The hiring process is a two way street and you'll need to understand how that is going to do for your life and your business[3:22]
    * You may be afraid to hire because you feel you may need to micromanage or they may be a flake and cancel. Or they may not have your same standards unless directly trained by you. [3:37]
    * Many have gone through a lot of hires over the years with only a handful of good employees.[4:20]
    * Fear of animals being abused or mishandled has been a big factor [4:40]
    * Sometimes you have the fear of losing the team you have because they are great and you're afraid they'll leave. [5:00]
    * Another worry is attention to detail that my endanger the safety of the animals such as not locking things properly [5:28]
    * Your business is only going to be as good as it's leader – you. It's the captain that steers the ship! If you're down on the docks mopping and doing other tasks and your ship crashes, you can't blame the ship for not sailing right. It's not that it didn't sail right, it's that we left our position – we weren't being the leader [6:10]
    * What I've learned is that no one is going to be as good as me. Why? Because a lot of them are going to be better than me. I can add value to pet businesses and pets by aligning my values and vision if I'm too busy being in the trenches. Same goes for you. [7:04]
    * Staff has one job to focus on as their primary responsibility, which can make them better as it instead of you doing way too many things at once. [8:34]
    * If you've been in that rut of doing it all yourself, how long has it been? How long have you wanted to get out of that rut yet expecting something to change? [9:37]
    * The hiring challenge from May 1st-31st which is normally $525 will be $10.00! Whoa! It won't be a huge group where you'll get lost. You'll be among people who are doing what you're doing, getting direct advice from me on how to hire and learning the best method hiring practices [13:39]
    * Once you understand these hiring practices, once you've tweaked them, you'll be able to hire the right people that will support your business [19:30]

    BIGGEST TAKE AWAY:

You don't have to do this alone. It doesn't have to be a scary experience. Once you get your hiring processes in place, you can have the right staff to support you while you steer your ship and focus on what's important to scale and grow your business

Anxiety and depression can present differently from person to person. Kids are especially different. Dr. Rika shares some of the ways these symptoms show up and also gives tips on how to determine whether or not something more serious is going on while being careful to let the professionals do the diagnosing.

In this section, Bella spent some time emphasizing the normalcy of feeling guilt that so many parents experience. Often, we are so wrapped up in our businesses that we realize a good portion of the day went by and we didn’t take time to focus on our kids. Bella shares what has helped her in her own struggles.

When It’s Hard to Ask for Help and Setting Strict Goals.
Bella gets it. She’s been in the fire managing a very busy company while being a single parent and handling all the challenges that come with it. It’s very easy to blame ourselves or just feel guilty for not being able to do more. Frequently, we find ourselves needing some help and not reaching out to resources that are all around us. We can often find ourselves missing out on opportunities to get ahead or gain ground in certain areas because we aren’t asking for help and because we haven’t been intentional with the time that we have.  Bella offers some ideas to consider.

  • Episode 226: Beware Of Certain Pet Business Coaches
Beware Of Certain Pet Business Coaches

Let’s talk about business coaches and mentors! This week, Bella, who is a big believer in coaches herself and has always had a coach, shares why it’s absolutely critical you choose the right business coach and what to look for.
This episode stresses being aware of the rather startling movement where anyone and everyone is calling themselves a coach. Buyer BEWARE. It takes more than a brief dabbling in a business or a quickly attained certificate to make an effective results oriented coach.
These days we are seeing a wide range of new coaching titles: dog biz coaches, dog training mentors, or dog business consultants.
They are the people that dog business owners, facility owners, and corporations come to when they want to revolutionize how they do the business of dogs.

Biggest Takeaways You Don’t Want to Miss

    Not all coaches are equal.
Some haven’t been in business long and have just closed their doors on a pet based business that failed. Some decided coaching would be easier than working through a business with ups and downs and walked away. Now they think they should coach you, the pet business owner.

Examples of coaches who care and get results.
Bella is connected with commanding badass dog biz entrepreneurs who are dedicated to the growing and shifting dog training industry. These people are focused on and get results. As an example, Bella references The Grassroots Dog Biz School. This team consists of multiple 7-figure dog business owners, world renowned dog trainers, dog training facility owners, social media rockstars, Ivy League MBA holders and keynote speakers, etc.

What happens when you aren’t sure if your business will recover from the pandemic?
Your business can recover! You are not alone. Bella shares a really meaningful analogy about a house in a storm and rebuilding. You don’t want to miss this part.

The importance of the right coach or mentor to help you rebuild.
Do you understand that choosing the right helpers to re-construct is just as important as choosing the right coach to level up? Let’s learn why it’s the same thing.

Are you the “right client” for a coach?
It’s critical that you be selective. Your time and your money is valuable. Hiring the wrong coach can not only cost you money but the price of how you’ll feel as an entrepreneur if you don’t meet your goals on time due to having the wrong coach is even steeper.

    Show Highlights
Are you afraid you won’t recover after this pandemic? [4:00]
The leaders you follow matter. Differences in types of coaches and so called gurus. [5:45]
Understanding a coach’s motivation and goals. Is it to your benefit? [6:30]
What to look for when you choose a coach, cost of hiring the wrong coach [8:00]
Understanding their motivational style. ARE they even motivating? [9:15]
Are they results-oriented or just hope you show up for your sessions? [11:58]
Beware of FALSE COACHES. What to look for. [12:30]
What opportunities do they have to help you grow, materials, resources, etc. [14:00]

  • Episode 225 Running a Business Through Divorce or Major Life Changes
How Relationships and Emotions Impact Your Business

Bella talks about a common thread she sees year to year in business owners. This includes the depth of emotions and how paralyzing they can be when it comes to going about your daily work and your business. Bella opens up about her own experiences in a painful divorce and trying to keep her business running at prime levels.
CAUTION: This episode is very raw and transparent. We are including a trigger warning here for anyone who may be sensitive to this type of material.

Biggest Takeaways You Don’t Want to Miss

Emotional Abuse, Blatant Insults, Isolation, Coping, Loneliness, Embarrassment, Anger.
If you’ve gone through emotional trauma, breakups or divorce, you may recognize some of those emotions. Bella lays her heart on the line. If you think you are alone, you’re not. She stresses it over and over. Her heartfelt identification with these emotions comes through. We are not alone.
    The Importance of Emotional Intelligence.
In this section, Bella discusses how the popular book Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman helped her through some of her more difficult times. Goleman popularized the concept of emotional intelligence (EI) and its use to help manage your emotions and guide your behavior and thinking. You can improve your EI with regular practice of controlling your emotions and staying calm when they overwhelm you.
Why It’s Important to Deal with Emotional “Baggage.”
It’s so critical that we deal with the emotions that are crippling us and holdings us back in life, business and relationships. The trauma that Bella relates to us doesn’t always happen in divorces or romantic relationships. It comes in all forms. It can happen in friendships, family relationships – even in some business relationships.
Getting the Right Help From the Right Sources.
Remember, you are NOT alone. A failed relationship doesn’t mean you are a failure. But it is critical that you surround yourself with the right people and that you get help from sources that are qualified and that are also GOOD for you. Bella shares resources that were helpful to her during some of her most soul crushing moments.
