Gym member. Club member. Party member. Church member. One of these things is not like the other.

That’s because membership in the church isn’t about individuals united by common consumption, common interest, or even common concerns. Church membership is about belonging to Jesus and, therefore, to one another. Membership is about promising to live like we belong to both. And membership is about blessing—the church, the world, even yourself—as we pray, go, give, and serve together for the glory of God.
