It’s rare that we get to discuss Oscar caliber films on this podcast, but the newly released Ron Howard film “Hillbilly Elegy” (available on Netflix) fits the parameters of this show and by gum we’re gonna talk about it. Please join us as the St. Johns discuss Adam’s Glenn Close story, Mel’s “wild stretch”, and just what the hell is an elegy? The month of Melissa ends with another trip down nostalgia lane – this time in the form of a musical. We relive the first season of American Idol through the form of “From Justin to Kelly” – a movie that barely qualifies as a movie. Please join us as Melissa worships Kelly Clarkson, Adam rips apart the filmmaking, and Melissa sings along…again. Also, this week we do a throwback to “Swordfish” and indulged in the wine we had back then – a red blend called “Beauty in Chaos”.

After quite a disastrous selection of films in October (all Adam’s doing), Melissa has been given carte blanche and will be picking the film in November…and boy did she pick a doozy to start with: the Jennifer Lopez film “Enough”. Here is another film that divides the St. John household into feuding sides. Listen along as they discuss all things J. Lo, how quick it takes for this movie to go off the rails, and the wonder that is the Pacific Northwest. Also, this week the St. Johns enjoyed a Mourvedre wine from Fujishin Cellars in Idaho.

A different intro, Adam complimenting Melissa, and a good ole lazy Susan in a closet – that is just the tip of the iceberg of what goes on during the conversation on the not scary sequel “Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2”. Come along with Adam and Melissa as they discuss what the film was trying to do (but failed to do), the not-so-great acting, and numerous plot holes. Also, the best part of the film was the wine: a 2016 grenache from Breca wines.

“You can’t piss on hospitality!” Great advice from an even better film. That’s right: we’re covering a Mt. Rushmore of “bad films” film and a sequel that really isn’t a sequel – “Troll 2”. The St. Johns try their best to cover everything this film has to offer from goblin queens to the films root in vegetarianism and even bring their own thoughts ranging from eye acting to a “chain gang” (this will ONLY make sense if you listen to this episode). This was a real treat and demands to be watched. Also, to add to the joy the film brought we enjoyed a red blend from Odd Lot wines.

We’re back and we’re celebrating (is that the right word?) Halloween season. Join us as we dive into the sequel that no one wanted – “The Exorcist II: The Heretic”. We go all over the place for this one by discussing what went wrong with filming, why so many locusts, and just what is happening with this film. Also, to help us get through this film (which was absolutely necessary) we enjoyed a Snoqualmie Whistle Stop Red Blend.

2001 was an incredible year for film (good and bad) – and since we covered the 135th highest grossing film of that year with “Antitrust”, we decided to do the 136thhighest grossing film: the Monica Potter/Freddie Prinze, Jr. romantic comedy “Head Over Heels”. During our discussion, we talk about what doggystyle really means, what really goes on in Australia, and if Mark Wahlberg directed this film. Also, we indulged in a 2017 Syrah from Columbia Crest.

We just can NOT get enough of Sean Patrick Flanery on this podcast and decided to cover this 1997 straight-to-video dark comedy gem: “Best Men”. Join Adam and Melissa as they talk about the films they watched as children, praise this absolute stacked cast, and discuss which Wilson brother (Owen or Luke) would you rather have sex with. All this and more in our latest episode. Also, we enjoyed a delectable red blend called “Upshot” as we watched this film.

We did a deep dive into the extended universe of “The Conjuring” films and ended our journey with 2018 religious horror flick “The Nun”. Adam and Melissa agree that these films have too much fog (and how does it get inside?) but disagree about how the confession booth is handled in the film. Oh nostalgia…how you can make a bad movie look so good? This week we dive into the cult classic “The Boondock Saints”. During the episode we relive how Adam and Melissa came to this movie (and Melissa forgets when they started dating), Troy Duffy and his Icarus-like fall from grace, and is there a swordfish in this film?
