In this week's episode I welcome back life long wellness guru and yogi, Gabe, live from Thailand to discuss the benefits of water fasting for mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing. He also shares personal details from his recent 10 day water fast, as well as what he has learned from Dr. Lodi at The LifeCo Detox and Wellness Center on the scientific health benefits for your body.
Water fasting has been around for thousands of years and is even incorporated into some religions and cultures, but it's the physical health benefits that intrigue me the most. Studies have shown that water fasting (just drinking water) has been linked to lowering the risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, reduces inflammation, and even improves brain function. When the body only receives water, it increase autophagy, a process which breaks down potentially dangerous parts of your cells. Promoting cell turnover not only helps your organs repair themselves, but also makes your skin glow and can help turn back your body's time clock. In fact even 2 days of a water cleanse was shown to increase the production of Human Growth Hormone in men by 5 times! Basically, it's a mini fountain of youth.
So why are we all not doing it? Well, it sounds daunting, but that's how I felt until I did my first 7 day juice cleanse as well. It's not as hard as you think, and Gabe offers us helpful tips and suggestions to set you up for success and try it for yourself. Even 24 hours he says will give your body an important break from digestion so it can do what it does best.
